Our maritime decline is a threat to our security. While China builds 1,000+ ships a year, the U.S. built only 5 in 2024. I’m teaming up with Rep. John Garamendi on the SHIPS for America Act to revitalize our shipyards, create jobs, and build ships in America again.

Pretty amazing.

Here is another fact Putin’s fan club desperately wants to bury: Russia controlled significantly more Ukrainian territory one month into the invasion than they do today. Over four years of grinding war and massive casualties just to go backwards. Complete failure

While we're talking percentages, let's talk about the proposed cuts to NASA's science budget. NASA is currently 0.36% of US federal spending. www.planetary.org/space-policy... The proposed budget cuts NASA science by 47%. NASA science is already on a shoestring, and that string is about to break

Carter Page was a legitimate target for surveillance. If an American who has been on U.S. intelligence’s radar before is seen in Moscow telling people he has a special in with a major U.S. party presidential candidate and can sell access, that’s something U.S. counterintelligence should look into.

If Dems retake either house, they must launch an investigation into this. There's no easier way to highlight the corruption of this era and to establish that Dems are committed to fighting it. Pretty sure @wyden.senate.gov and Maxine Waters would be the chairs to do it.

Clarence Thomas ruled in favor of Citizens United. Harlan Crow's political contributions then went up 862%. Then we later find out Thomas let Crow take him on lavish trips, buy his mom's house, and help fund his wife's conservative nonprofit. But go on about how "progressivism" is a problem...

NATO has been the bedrock of our national security for over 75 years. Walking away from our strongest allies during a period of global instability is a serious mistake that makes every American less safe.

Right now, the conversation isn’t about nuclear programs, or free and fair elections in Iran. It's about reopening a body of water that was open before this war started. Chalk that up as a win for Tehran.

Trump has proposed sweeping budget cuts to security agencies that would undermine the integrity of our country’s elections. This is just the latest in what Trump has been boasting for months: that he intends to intervene in and “take over” elections.

Hey Dems, if you want to reach young men, maybe tell them that, if they allow Republicans to keep Congress, there's a non-zero chance they will die losing a war that Trump started for no reason. Everybody knows now that is a very real possibility, and you need show them where you stand on it.

Eligible men will automatically be registered into the military draft pool by December as part of an effort to streamline the previous process of self-registration and save money.

The Iranian dictatorship is still in place. Iran still has enriched uranium. The Strait of Hormuz no longer has free passage. Sanctions and tariffs on Irans despotic regime are going to be lifted. And some are calling this a victory?

Trump’s various war crime threats really should see him impeached.

While everyone has moved on, I remain deeply troubled by Trumps threat to wipe out an entire civilization. No American president has talked in such terms. No American president ever should.

The people of Iran aren’t free. Iran can now charge tolls. The nuclear material sits EXACTLY where it did, in the same amount, since June. The regime is still in place with a younger ayatollah. Iran still was launching missiles, now with more money to rebuild. Period

NSF funded research has benefited all of humanity and paid for itself millions of times over here in the US. Their budget will now be the same as 2 days of stupid war in Iran costs. Trump continues to destroy what has actually made America superlative.

In what world is it okay for the Defense Secretary to make multi-million dollar investments in defense companies: a) Ever; b) In the run-up to starting a war in the Middle East FT has the scoop: www.ft.com/content/744e... In a functional democracy, he would offer his resignation tonight.

It’s hard to overstate how immoral and wrong it is that Trump is likely sending American soldiers into harm’s way for no good reason. Every American who voted for this man to lead America have aided and abetted this tragic mistake.

A large rally in opposition to the government has value in and of itself. There's ample literature on this: signaling, agenda-setting, preference falsification. Historical examples abound; '63 march on DC and '68 protests in France were dismissed by many at the time as counterproductive farces. 1/2

The NY Times saves its harshest skepticism for progressives. Instead of being impressed by 3,000+ coordinated protests, NYT dismisses the value of “hitting a number” and asks if No Kings will be “a primal scream that fades into a whimper.” F off, NY Times. We'll defeat fascism w/o you. (Gift link)

1/ It's not just that unilaterally paying TSA agents is illegal. It's that Trump has now repeatedly undermined the core of the congressional power of the purse. He's not spending money that has been appropriated by law (impoundments) and he's spending money that has not been appropriated.

A disgusting lie from Hegseth. If the US had really depleted its stockpiles for Ukraine's benefit, we would all be much safer now. Instead we have Trump doing all he can to help the Russian economy recover by lifting sanctions on RU oil sales, while blaming Ukrainians for defending themselves.

Kate from Kharkiv@kateinkharkiv.bsky.social

Hegseth: "We're still dealing with the environment Joe Biden created—depleting our stockpiles and sending them to Ukraine instead of our own military. Every time we face a challenge, it traces back to 'Well, sent it to Ukraine.'" It looks like they’re just going to blame Ukraine
