My main question is whether this is common practice. Like, for example, if a police officer is injured by a triad member or other criminal in the line of duty, do they also sue them for damages? Is that even a thing? Or is it only for protesters? And if so, why? Legit question.

A Hong Kong police officer has sought at least HK$220,000 in damages from a man who stabbed him during a protest in 2020. In full: hongkongfp.com/2026/10/27/h... Photo: May James/HKFP.

I think this is very important to understand. If you can limit the rights of trans ppl, you can do it to anyone.

Colin Peters (spoopy version)@colinpeters.bsky.social

I think it’s a good thing to point out to people that attacks on trans rights are part-and-parcel of the far right program to make everyone’s rights negotiable and subject to revision at a moment’s notice.

Q: What percentage of the people in the US healthcare system are doctors and nurses? Less than 5%?

Some thoughts on how state media reported on the Alberta referendum - or rather, how they didn't. Even while they devoted breathless coverage to a fire on an Alberta army base, China's biggest names in official broadcasting and the press largely ignored the province's vote on pursuing independence.

The achievement of Serbian students overthrowing Aleksandar Vučić can't be overstated. In 2024, they began protesting. In 2025, they transformed a protest movement into civil dissidence. In 2026, they became a political party — and two months later, crushed a corrupt state-entrenched authoritarian.

Oy, Mr FS, it’s called “The Gateway to China”…!
