I have nothing to skeet, and I am skeeting it. Sarcasm, dramatic irony, metaphor, bathos, puns, parody, litotes, satire, rubber ducks, sensible shoes, chocopies -- if we don't got it, you don't want it.

As a Hongkonger, this hits hard.

The achievement of Serbian students overthrowing Aleksandar VučiΔ‡ can't be overstated. In 2024, they began protesting. In 2025, they transformed a protest movement into civil dissidence. In 2026, they became a political party β€” and two months later, crushed a corrupt state-entrenched authoritarian.

It's really damning. The accusations are numerous and well-supported. But I was really struck by the descriptions of Trump's behavior -- the name dropping, strong-arming, and attempts to buy off silence. His gross rivalry with Epstein. It's all so familiar. It's shit he's been doing his entire life.

China’s first AI-generated theatrical film, β€˜Sanxingdui: Future Past’, has bombed at their domestic box office, only making $121,000 USD against a budget of $1.5M USD. In contrast, the crudely animated β€˜Niu Lai’ made nearly $10M USD against a budget of $200-500 USD.

My main question is whether this is common practice. Like, for example, if a police officer is injured by a triad member or other criminal in the line of duty, do they also sue them for damages? Is that even a thing? Or is it only for protesters? And if so, why? Legit question.

A Hong Kong police officer has sought at least HK$220,000 in damages from a man who stabbed him during a protest in 2020. In full: hongkongfp.com/2026/10/27/h... Photo: May James/HKFP.

I think this is very important to understand. If you can limit the rights of trans ppl, you can do it to anyone.

Colin Peters (spoopy version)@colinpeters.bsky.social

I think it’s a good thing to point out to people that attacks on trans rights are part-and-parcel of the far right program to make everyone’s rights negotiable and subject to revision at a moment’s notice.

In July, an incensed Elon Musk vowed that Grok Imagine would produce a "full-length" and "historically accurate" adaptation of Homer's Odyssey to put Christopher Nolan's woke version to shame. Three months later, we got seven minutes of slop that Grok itself admits is not historically accurate.

I wondered. I passed by Jardine House on my way to class and saw the emergency vehicles and a big crowd on the footbridge, then I saw some ppl with their phones pointed up. I was in a hurry so I didn't stop to look. I wondered if it might be a jumper. Glad it wasn't, and glad the workers are okay.

RazvenHK@razvenhk.bsky.social

Social media reports that two workers were trapped and hanging off the exterior of Jardine House in Central after the gondola platform they were working on suffered a malfunction and rapidly descended to ground level. The workers have been rescued by emergency services.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

You know, I've been to a The Cheesecake Factory exactly once in my life -- sometime in the mid-00s. The food was okay but IMO overpriced for what it is, and typical of American restaurants in that the portion sizes were just stupid. I ordered a half burrito and still couldn't finish it. 1/3

This post is unavailable.

The following exchange (paraphrased) took place: Server: Here's your burrito. (Places dish on the table with a burrito the size of a Size 12 running shoe) Me: Sorry, I meant to order the half -sized burrito. Server: That IS the half size burrito. Me: Holy moly! Server: I know, right? 2/3

I should also add that I went there to meet with friends while travelling stateside. It's not a place I'd voluntarily eat at on my own, partly because it's outside of my budget, and partly because there's no way I can eat that much food. This has been my The Cheesecake Factory post. The End. 3/3

I wonder if Eric Chan knows how much a hotel room costs in Hong Kong. I don't think he does.

Agreed. Most whataboutism masquerades as calling out hypocrisy, but to me it always comes across as using that hypocrisy to justify whatever terrible policy or atrocity they're accused of.

Gina Anne Tam@dgtam86.bsky.social

As a side note, when I lived in China nearly 20 years ago, this was a common talking point among regular people in regards to Tibet. Often its purpose was the kind of whataboutism that served as a trump card or silencer in a debate, but it also had a flavor of β€œwhy can’t we do what yall did” too

The trick will be how to get past the inevitable political ploys. Republicans will undoubtedly play the persecution card, which is why it's so hard to hold Presidents accountable apart from impeachment (which has yet to work in practice, and which itself is open to political abuse). 1/2

we're going to need a long-term plan, with broad political appeal, for ending impunity & holding the trump administration accountable for its crimes, malfeasance & cruelties. not 'tit-for-tat' but an american version of transitional justice. my take in @slate.com πŸ‘‡

At the very least we need to look at why existing legal remedies don't work on someone like Trump, and seriously decide if we want a system that allows any POTUS to crime with impunity. If we don't, we need a workable system to deal with it. Not sure if that's doable in the current environment. 2/2

My first brush with anonymity was in childhood, in a Catholic confessional. As I write in @bostonglobe.com, I think we forget how important anonymity is in our day-to-day lives. It's so routine that we don't even notice when we use it. But we'll miss it when it's gone. And that day is looming.

For sure. Even then, the DC has little political power compared to LegCo, but the flip was huge (as was voter turnout), and made it clear which side the majority of HK was on. IMO it's also why GovHK remains so paranoid about sedition and soft resistance and whatnot. They know they're unpopular.
