I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Yesterday (Oct. 26) marked the 150th consecutive day that the Niño 3.4 sea surface temperature set a new record daily high, at 30.22°C (preliminary). This was more than 1.13°C above the previous record daily high set in 2015, as well as a record 3.49°C above the 1991-2020 baseline.

At COP17 in Durban, the then Obama administration negotiator Todd Stern famously remarked "If equity’s in, we're out." It's a belief that underlies mitigation words said by rich country coalitions at climate talks. Because in practice, equitable action means the wealthiest emitters are in trouble

The latest IPCC projections for the next 75 years is a joke. We will cross 1.8C by 2029. We will cross 2.0C by long before 2039. Our oceans already contain the excess heat energy to make this happen, even if we cut fossil fuels to zero today. We must cut fossil fuels to zero extremely fast.

The 15% are an ancient number. Today we know that eating nonhuman animals is HALF of all climate forcing (W/m2). Most damage is done via land use aka habitat destruction aka CO2 destruction and not methane. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Brent Toderian@brenttoderian.bsky.social

Bike-lanes don’t cause traffic congestion. Car dependency, land-use sprawl, too many cars driving too much taking up too much space, highly subsidized driving costs, and not enough choices in how to get around, ALL cause traffic congestion. Think about it. THAT’S common sense.
