I'm curious if the City of @berkeleyca.gov or the School District has ever done a traffic study of parents driving their kids to school. I wonder how much of the rush hours consist of school traffic, and what can be done to reduce it.

Since 2016, London’s cycling network has grown fivefold, from 90 to 450 kilometres. The results? 1.5 million daily cycle journeys—a 43% increase since 2019—twice as many bikes as cars on City of London streets during the day, and motor traffic in steady decline—having fallen 25% in the same period.

PG&E has started public safety power shutoffs, due to the risk of power lines starting wildfires. While the map shows UC is out, it still seems to have power. But hills to the north are out. Homes around Cragmont school are listed as being shut off until Saturday.

I knew gas cooking released pollutants that increase risks of cardiovascular diseases and cancers, but this was new to me: In a new study, 68% of gas-fired commercial kitchens exposed cooks to unsafe temperatures >90 °F, and 53% to temps >100 °F. All electric kitchens studied stayed at safe temps.

Chevron donated $150,000 to the Bay Area Council, which led a campaign against electrification rules requiring homeowners to replace gas water heaters with electric heat pumps. The Council hired a software company to send thousands of opposition emails, some without the consent of the signers.
