I think that’s my deepest fear. They’ll make teaching so unappealing that it’ll only attract those who want/need scripts. It’s the classic neoliberal shuffle: Starve institutions of support, access, prestige etc. then use the inevitable gaps as justification to control/eventually privatize.

It’s honestly weird. Surely Mellon, Whiting, and Ford see how much money is being pumped into civic center humanities as teaching and research centers. Do they not have a response? Are they just going to let their decades of investment in higher ed wither away and die?

I am angry tonight. Because tonight ICE shot a New Yorker. They shot a New Yorker while his five year old child was in the car. ICE makes this city less safe. We want them out. Now.

Yale Law School should have enrolled at least one more foreigner so as not to waste a spot on this moron.

Vance: "Some of America's most elite universities bring in foreigners to undercut wages of American residents. There are 9 universities in particular we believe merit an investigation. Those are Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Brown, the University of Pittsburg, UC Davis, Cal Tech, Arizona State, and MIT."

1) Alito revealing this now is an attempt to rally Republicans in Trump states where Dems lead for Senate. 2) He’s the most partisan R on the court—highly likely he steps down in the lame duck if Dems take the Senate. 3) Doing number 2) makes court expansion even more likely if Dems win in 2028

Here are eight things public universities can’t do with their current budget model. There’s a new plan, discussed at the link, that won’t fix the budget but will hurt research

My new piece at the Remaking blog is "Selling the Do-It-Yourself University." Budget officials are letting their bad finance model push faculty towards more fundraising for their own research and, insidiously, for the general operations budget. Madness. utotherescue.blogspot.com/2026/09/line...

Great piece going into detail on budget questions from Chris Newfield who started me on the path of reading budgets. Good complement to my ongoing posts that started yesterday.
