we need new, non-Stancilian discourse
someone with a large follower count say "hear me out" about a deranged public figure or fictional character or something
be a hero
you can save us
Even if we run the table and flip Texas, Iowa, Kansas, South Carolina, Nebraska, and Idaho, total Republican apocalypse, the NYT is still running stories the next day about how in this rural diner Trump voters still support him. You cannot escape this.
If the Dems take the Senate every extra seat is gravy. If we get 52 seats but barely lose Kansas we've had a terrific night. A year ago that would have been a pipe dream.
I find myself concerned that the widening midterm map may create a set of expectations where we end up getting a D+7/D+8 year with some strong candidate effects but it gets read as a disappointing performance because the Dems didn't pick off Kansas, South Carolina, Iowa or Texas etc.
just stopped at the local coffee place. Thereβs a new barista in a hippie skirt with blue hair, face piercings, and a bunch of tattoos. Coffee noticeably better
while being stuck in bed I have developed a fresh special interest in nuclear history. Mostly disasters and criticality accidents so far but everything about nuclear energy fascinates me
Its been a minute but im alive. EDS decided to finally kick my ass hard enough to put me on medical leave since early august. more precisely it kicked me in the spine
On the contrary, I have repeatedly and emphatically argued that most of the problems with AI as it exists are just problems with capitalism, and it's strange to see leftists not care about solving the underlying problem
well that's the real mf point here! "AI" proponents are able to push this because < gestures wildly > capitalism and etc, which is of course never the discourse they want us to engage with
My secret, Cap, is that I'm *always* angry about old books. For instance, here's a tiny slice of the millions of books 1931-1986 that have no commercial value, that are digitized, but that we're unable to use in large-scale research because they are illegal to share or display.
i'm firmly of the belief that everyone should have a creative hobby. even if you aren't "good" at it. it keeps your critical thinking skills engaged, it reminds you that you're still capable of learning and growing and improving at things, it helps you connect to other people. you gotta make stuff!
that is lindsey graham's legacy, and it's the only thing funny-adjacent (in a horrifying way) about him absolutely being closeted: he dedicated his life to torturing and traumatizing the people who felt like he did, channeling his self-hatred outward onto everyone else.
The entire city is on edge right now.
Itβs 96 degrees, weβre interrupted every 5 min by the sound of low-flying fighter jets, and the president has managed to ruin July 4th.
Quietly muttering to myself: βjust wait until IT happens. Everyone will be so happy when IT happens. Itβll be incredibleβ¦β
Hennepin County has cancelled the monthly outdoor warning siren test today due to the potential for severe weather. If you hear sirens today, assume it is a real alert and seek shelter immediately.
Again reiterating my belief that βnon-binaryβ is eventually going to go down the same route as βsocialistβ due to right-wing abuse of the term. Just like a βsocialistβ now is someone who wants potholes filled, a nonbinary person will eventually become a dudebro at the gym who does not beat his wife.
Okay, fine. Muppet Evangelion. I have never actually watched Evangelion, but from secondhand nerd culture knowledge, I believe this to be a funny idea.
All these people naming literary classics are cowards. Give me FEAR AND LOATHING IN MUPPET LAS VEGAS. Give me MUPPET HOUSE OF LEAVES. MUPPET VALLEY OF THE DOLLS. FLOWERS IN THE MUPPET ATTIC. FIFTY SHADES OF GREY FELT
Popular unpopular opinion: touchscreens in cars meant to be operated by drivers are a terrible idea to the point that they should perhaps be made literally illegal
On Wednesday, the Eighth Circuit denied en banc rehearing in the mandatory detention case, further making clear SCOTUS review is all but inevitable next term.

An actually cool documentary project would be drawing a random sample of Americans and paying each of them to have a one-on-one conversation about politics with Boots Riley, and seeing what he thought about this thesis afterwards.

I was really into persona 5 when I was 16 and have had the same handle since. the domain is just my go to video game character name with the semi-standard "space.dev" ending
been dealing with a flare but I also finally have a referral for ADHD/autism evaluation. I should be able to start the stationary side gig I've wanted to for a bit soon. life is going pretty well
I think that one of the reasons tech CEOs are such shitheads is that people in tech just want to work on their stuff. We don't want to be leaders, collectively, and that means that we constantly promote social climbers up and out over us because we'd rather not worry about that shit
