Expect more of this from the Florida “Grand Conspiracy” probe, which is basically an effort to turn a decade of Sean Hannity monologues into criminal cases.

Regardless of the strength of the cases, the indictments give the right-wing echo chamber fuel for their claims that covid escaped a lab, Charlottesville was a hoax, and leftist rhetoric is too violent.

Like the weak SPLC and Comey cases, the best way to think about this is an attempt to sync up law enforcement with the right-wing media narrative machine.

Don Moynihan@donmoyn.bsky.social

Man, this is incredibly weak: if the benchmark is that federal employees used private messaging tools to communicate, this entire administration will be indicted in the future. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/28/s...

I’m fascinated by how obsessed Trump is with his ballroom but still unsure why he wants it so bad. There is definitely an untold story there that goes beyond him just wanting a larger event space.

“Somebody shorted the oil markets today by hundreds of millions of dollars exactly 20 minutes before Trump made his announcement that everything was going to be great. And if you see that once, it could be a coincidence. But that’s happened at least 3x… a pattern.” The most corrupt regime ever.

DOJ demanded voter files from all 50 states. DOJ sued 31 states for refusing their demand. My law firm intervened to protect voters in those cases. DOJ is now 0-5. My firm is 5-0. Lesson: When we fight we win.

Orban consolidated power by making the electoral system less proportional and gerrymandering districts of very unequal sizes. That gave Orban supermajorities when the opposition was divided and less popular—but it turned an opposition landslide into a supermajority that can now dismantle the regime

💥🇭🇺With 95% of votes counted, Hungary’s map shows the opposition Tisza party crushing Fidesz 94–12 in constituencies. Péter Magyar has secured a 2/3 majority, asked President Tamás Sulyok and other Orbán loyalists to resign immediately, and announced his first visit to Warsaw.

Yeah, the bad news is that JD is a schmuck and fucking imbecile. So, we lose.

JD Vance: "The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement. And I think that's bad news for Iran much more than it's bad news for the US. So, we go back to the US having not come to an agreement ... they have chosen not to accept our terms"

Wild that Trump has sent his son in law who has billions in business deals in the Middle East to negotiate with Iran and that isn’t a scandal that will end his presidency or even really mentioned by the networks

Constitutional lawyer here. I don't think it would violate the Constitution for the VP/Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment, but the intended constitutional remedy for this behavior is impeachment & removal. The fact that that remedy is politically impossible is a scandal and a crisis.

Chris Murphy@chrismurphyct.bsky.social

If I were in Trump's Cabinet, I would spend Easter calling constitutional lawyers about the 25th Amendment. This is completely, utterly unhinged. He's already killed thousands. He's going to kill thousands more.

As I point out regularly, because FL is one of the most primitive, regressed states in America, you cannot be elected or appointed to any office there unless you’re a thoroughly despicable and corrupt criminal.

"I am comforted slightly by the fact we have a commander in chief who appreciates and supports our military. What fills in the gap is my faith in our commander in chief" -- the Trump fluffing on Fox News is out of control today on the heels of news that an F-15 has gone down in Iran

The US military is well on its way to becoming a partisan political rogue federal agency just like all the others, largely because retired Republican veterans in Congress and elsewhere betray their oaths to the Constitution by remaining silent.

Rafael Cruz was born in Alberta, Canada. His father was Cuban-born. Because his mother was a US citizen, he acquired US citizenship at birth under American law, even though born in Canada. He renounced his Canadian citizenship only after it became public for his political career.

I mean, good, but it’s still a sign of profound dysfunction if this isn’t 9-0. A justice who will sign off on this is effectively announcing there’s nothing too flagrantly unconstitutional to get their blessing if a Republican president does it.

Mark Joseph Stern@mjsdc.bsky.social

Both Roberts and Gorsuch sound intensely skeptical of the Trump administration's arguments against birthright citizenship. The three liberals have already opposed Trump's executive order. So if this holds, there's five votes against Trump right there.

Barrett now asks about the "messy" applications of birthright citizenship, asking how the government would deal with "foundlings" where the parents aren't known. SG starts by deferring to a statute on that and Barrett responds immediately with "yeah yeah yeah yeah but what about the Constitution"?

I am listening to Ron Desantis talk about elections as he is about to sign a new voter suppression law. He is every bit as unhinged as Trump. Amazingly unhinged. As soon as he stops rambling and signs this bill, Florida will be sued. Stand by....

Just to recap: Russia is currently helping Iranian forces try to kill US troops. In response, Trump is… lifting sanctions on Russia and threatening to pull out of NATO, which are the #1 and #2 items on Putin’s wishlist

./coldwarkiid reposted

i like the fantasy of trump attending the supreme court hearing on revoking birthright citizenship, as though he will be thoughtfully considering the legal merits of the case with great intellectual mind, instead of staring down conservative justices to make sure they do his bidding

./coldwarkiid reposted

A single vote for Trump in the birthright citizenship case would be as bad as anything the Court has done since Bush v. Gore. This issue has been settled for more than a century. It is the jurisprudential equivalent of asking what 2+2 is. Any answer other than 4, something is deeply, deeply wrong.

./coldwarkiid reposted

If the Supreme Court votes to repeal birthright citizenship it must be understood as a yet another vote to repeal themselves as justices. A Supreme Court seat doesn’t carry the power to overturn the Constitution. Elected leaders and citizens both must recognize all six of them as illegitimate.
