Happy #IntersexAwarenessDay!
Today I'm reposting my old Intersex 101 thread from Twitter - with new improvements, resources, and more!
It's starting right here, read on!
A 2025 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, Omar Yaghi is the son of Palestinian refugees who grew up in Jordan.
He just left the US to move to China after raising concerns about rising anti-immigrant sentiment, like the kind shown here. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/china-than...
RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."
look i support women having the sole right to hold elected office as long as men gain an equivalent unique civil right (the freedom to call each other "big guy" and "my man")
Look, I'm an evolutionary physiologist, ok? I believe in biology, not this sentimental feminist claptrap. Women are biologically optimized to be nurturers. They run households, they don't fight lions. That's why they're the only ones we can trust to govern our complex, industrialized civilization.
While I *am* the kind of nerd who knows what an arming coif looks like, I have *no fucking clue* what you make for a film buff who's obsessed with Titanic (a movie I personally find…boring, at best) & is otherwise a history nerd. Suggestions?
This is something we get accused of surprisingly often and all I can say is: yes. Good. I am here to destroy the hopes and dreams of husbands who don't think they have to add value to their wife's life.
"For married women, it gives unrealistic expectations of sex, often leading to disappointment in our marriages...For unmarried women, these books will do nothing but give you unrealistic expectations for when you do get married."
Feels like it's been forever since I made this piece! This is Lookfar and it's my tribute to Ursula le Guin, who wrote A Wizard of Earthsea in the 1960s and is still one of the best fantasy books ever written.

You know, I keep saying "I think Silicon Valley people think AI is good at everything because it's good at code and they think code is the most intellectually challenging task in existence", and then they just go ahead and skeet it out
I am not confused about that: I believe it avowedly, and I think what is happening in every domain of intellectual endeavor suggests that's the right idea, and it will be increasingly clear
There are these repeated injuries in hadrosaur tails. There were a few theories on this, but one of them stands out. No easy way to say this: some dinosaurs were really into rough sex. 🧪

A reference probably only understood by 3 people in academia, but I think I’ve figured out a way to put my finger on LLM-speech’s ineffable badness:
AI can’t smell.

What's striking to me are the rules of engagement and the methodology of action here, which more or less is predicated on burying liberal delusions about "debate" or the "marketplace of ideas". The rules were ultimately very simple: amplify your own message and suppress your opponent's.
At one point he had a Whatsapp group with 10 million people in it, coordinating action. Which I didn't even think whatsapp was infrastructurally designed to support. And yes, whatsapp is of course a meta network, but the strategy was to be everywhere, to act redundantly, to be unbannable.
And credit to him, it worked. A sort of digital levee en masse, literally raising an army to counteract the forces that artificially amplify far-right messaging. He did that through organizing and messaging, both on the streets and online, that was so relentless that he put himself in the hospital.
ladies, is your programming
- a field dominated by rich white men
- driven by fashion trends
- practiced as a demonstration of status
- funded by vanity projects for failsons
- filled with queers trying and failing to break even
that's art, sorry
I don’t know how people could say that programming and art are completely different disciplines when both workflows involve going ‘This will never work, I’m a failure’, changing one thing, then thinking you might be the smartest person alive
It was tradition to put a $20 in the physical copy of your PhD thesis for the rare chance someone pulled it off the stacks and read it.
What's the equivalent of writing a research paper and hoping a human reads it instead of only the AIs?
How can AI support researchers in peer review?
Springer Nature and Google DeepMind are partnering to co-design an AI peer review assistant that helps reviewers navigate manuscripts and focus on where their scientific judgement matters most.

I don't really want to get into it with a random person in someone else's mentions, but this is a fundamental problem with how these tools are marketed
Trans people are approximately 1 percent of the population. There are more than 100 women's medals in every Olympic games, which means if trans women were exactly equivalent to cis women they'd win a medal in every Olympics.
I hereby declare Awkward Mondays
You know how sometimes there’s something you need to do with no real deadline that is uncomfortable or awkward or really should have been done long ago and it feels terrible to have to face it so instead you put it off and then it’s so much worse?
I live in a rural town and, like, I don't know how to tell you this, but the girls play on the boys team and vice versa all the time because otherwise we don't have enough players for a game and it's literally always fine so stop being weirdos about kids sports and just let trans kids play.
This is such a fantastic photo: "The Witches' Tea Party" but I want to use it to explain the origin of the tall, pointy witches hat.
The real story of this photo:
These are residents at the Hospital of the Holy & Undivided Trinity: an almshouse in Castle Rising, Norfolk, England established 1610.
We as a society need to stop making sexy versions of classic Hallowe'en monsters lithe and hairless. Give that werewolf some meat on his bones. Make Frankenstein's monster as jacked as he is in the book. Give Dracula his fuckass moustache back.
"The repeated misinterpretation of recently constructed golf course elements as impact craters highlights a striking lack of methodological rigor…" that's a very polite way to put it.

It’s almost as though “gifts for men” (or “gifts for women”) is nowhere near as useful a classification as “gifts for readers”, “gifts for cooks”, “gifts for pet owners”, etc. etc.
Perhaps we can infer something from this.
Man the lists for “suggested gift for male friends” is so bereft, it’s all wallet or headphones or booze.
I pride myself on being a good gift giver and I will not be defeated.

ME, AN ANALYTIC PHILOSOPHER:
"This could have been an email." Aragorn whispers.
"He ALWAYS pulls this shit in 'Any Other Business" Boromir replies, quietly. "It's why Faramir marked himself as busy when the invite went out."
