NEW: "Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women during the mid-to-late 1990s," per new House Judiciary Dem report. Report has new allegation that Trump raped a 24-year-old and then promised the victim a visa & NYU admission, demanding she stay quiet.

In 8th grade, we had a retreat near the end of the year. The school asked families to submit letters for us to read. Some were silly, a lot were about growing up etc. It was very touching - I still have a lot of them! I shudder to think how many kids' letters would be written by AI today

WELKER: Is a vote for you a vote for the Trump agenda? MIKE ROGERS: Um, I'm apologizing. I'm having some difficultly in my earpiece. But is a vote for you? I'm not sure. I'll tell you what a vote for me is. It's a great day for the state of Michigan

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

Reminded of how tv news looped the images of the military equipment the Biden administration deliberately left behind in Afghanistan for weeks after the withdrawal as if they represented a huge scandal

AOC: "As AI begins to encroach in our society, their goal is to take your cognition away from you. AI's goal is to take your thoughts away from you, your ability to think away from you, so that you become dependent on a machine ... reading books is active resistance"

I added someone's reel (which was about the fact that Ramaswamy's ad is a good example of why women feel pressured not to report) to my story on Instagram and added that I think Ramaswamy is a piece of shit and if you vote for him you are too. Instagram took it down!

New: We found cops who kept using Flock to spy on women after they left the force. One used it for five years after retirement, tracking his wife during a custody battle. Another ran searches while he was suspended (and later fired) after killing a 15-year-old boy. Free to read: wapo.st/3UEwWU7

wapo.stTheir police jobs ended. They kept using Flock’s vast surveillance network.Flock employees urged the company to adopt stronger security after a 2024 breach. The company continued to allow practices that left its network vulnerable to unauthorized users.

If Zohran Mamdani or Abdul El-Sayed had used the word “Shylock” as an insult, the ADL would be attacking them by name relentlessly. But Donald Trump used it, so we get a generic condemnation of the word without any specific reference to who actually used it, and with no assumption of intent.

Talarico: "We just found out that [Elon Musk] is almost single-handedly bankrolling this effort to install Ken Paxton in the U.S. Senate and defeat this movement...Elon Musk wants our land. He wants our water. He wants his very own personal United States senator. He is trying to buy Texas."

Trump: "Then you had the election with Ossoff vs. David Perdue. And it was a rigged election. David actually won that election, he won it by a lot. I sent David to China. That's what you get when you lose an election."

Police as an institution do not believe they should be subject to any kind of public oversight or control

WIRED@wired.com

Despite Illinois’ sanctuary laws, local police in and around Chicago helped ICE investigative agents track activists engaged in First Amendment–protected activities.

Note that I did not say "civilian" oversight or control because, despite their masturbatory fantasies to the contrary, cops are not part of the military

Calling it "the Indian Question," so clearly mimicking the horrifying, eliminationist rhetoric of the Nazis, is profoundly disgusting. There was a time when you get you ostracized from polite society, but instead the nyt will continue to launder Rufo's bad faith attacks

Christopher Mathias@letsgomathias.bsky.social

A few weeks ago when Chris Rufo devoted a podcast episode to "The Indian Question," Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi denounced the racist "question" as dangerous. On Sunday, Krishnamoorthi was inside a Hindu temple when a white supremacist attempted to mass murder Indian Americans inside

I think this has gotten noticeably worse with the rise of AI, but I'm constantly astounded at the number of people who think the point of a slide is to jam as many graphics and lines of text as possible

terrible move. history tells us the correct play is to abandon the city and defeat your adversaries at sea

Every day I think more about when Agent Smith says "when we started thinking for you it really became our civilization." Not in the sense of some machine uprising but in the sense of some people seem to want to outsource every aspect of being a human

I'm really glad to see folks outside of my nerdy corner of the world highlighting the way Trump may be using Venezuela to create a self-funding Pentagon. Trump's effort flies in the face of the key reason Congress has the power of the purse -- to keep the executive from self-funding the military.
