Ahead of tomorrow's budget statement.
Here’s how the UK chancellor can raise the billions needed to improve the quality of life of millions by addressing tax and fiscal anomalies.
There is no shortage of money. All that is needed is the political will.
"Just like wealth, true reform has never trickled down from the top— it is built from the ground up."
Ahead of tomorrow's Budget, our ED Faiza Shaheen explains the roadblocks to the reform this country needs & how we remove them.

We may not have Musk or Bezos but the richest 50 families in the UK own more wealth than half the population. Tax wealth now, limit total personal wealth

For 25 years, @greenparty.org.uk has been campaigning for car-free zones, cleaner air, and safer neighbourhoods for Londoners.
Now in 2026, Labour is finally getting on board with major pedestrianisation projects.

Many congratulations to the student movement in Serbia for their powerful victory in the elections this weekend - a brilliant reminder of the power of collective organising and protest in the face of corruption.
Important statement from another congressman and key youth leader, Guilherme Cortez. Very, very important words right now as the polls have officially closed.
'Champions of life' (geographers, anthropologists, ecologists) are lining up against tech bros & their hubris, understanding we are human animals, part of & dependent on the natural world.
With @commondescentpod.bsky.social, in the midst of a storm, I reflect on life's persistence, and power
Warnings for strong winds are in place for parts of the UK over the next couple of days. If you are travelling here are some simple steps you can follow to ensure that you stay safe.

A great turnout for tonight's @cyclinguk.bsky.social Glow Ride in Newcastle, raising awareness of the need for safe and inclusive cycling after dark, particularly for women. Thanks to @nclgreenparty.bsky.social councillor Sarah Peters for setting out the importance of the cause at the start.
Depressing to hear the BBC propagating the non-story started by the Tories about the possibility of power cuts because of renewables
A classic fossil fuel lie being given credibility by our public service broadcaster
#BBCR4Today
A good milestone. There are now 100 plug-in solar kits listed as compliant on the official database, according to Plug-In Solar Register
27 are currently on sale, with the cheapest 2-panel option (2x460W) selling for £379 plus £55 delivery (cheapest single panel option is basically the same price)
It’s always inspiring seeing what other cities do to make streets safer.
In Paris, it’s impossible not to notice the ubiquitous zebra crossings that help give pedestrian priority on side roads.
I’m delighted we’re working with Dept Transport to start trialing these at scale in London.
Let’s eradicate our life support systems – that’ll teach the liberals!
It's not just about giving destructive industries what they want, important as this is. The likes of Trump and Bolsonaro will kill the planet out of a vengeful desire to hurt. My column.

Unthinkable that Labour has doubled down on fossil fuels by approving Jackdaw – a total betrayal of future generations & contradiction of govts own climate goals.
The science is clear: the only way to secure a prosperous future in the face of climate breakdown is to keep fossil fuels in the ground.
Stupid decision by the Burnham government to proceed with Jackdaw gasfield.
Will do nothing significant for jobs & zilch for living standards. It’s a capitulation to fossil fuel lobby over interests of ordinary people.
This is truly pathetic from Ministers.
Labour’s claim to more than 27 new Jackdaw jobs doesn’t hold up.
The green economy is >£100bn a year and growing fast.
There is no future in fossil fuels. The Government knows this, but chooses profit for Shell over protecting our climate.
Today's decision by Labour to approve new drilling in the North Sea is climate vandalism.
It's a betrayal of all of our futures, and Labour has abandoned all credibility in the fight against climate change.
This is a victory for Shell over the people.

Government support for drilling at #Jackdaw takes a wrecking ball to any pretence of UK climate leadership & pours fuel on an overheating world - and for what? It’s equivalent to just 2 months of UK gas demand, creates just 27 direct jobs & has *no* impact on energy bills🧵1/4
The trade unions resisting a political donations cap in the UK are ragged-trousered philanthropists. Thanks to their delusion that a system allowing limitless donations enhances their power, they're in danger of handing the country to the far-right parties that billionaires support. Burnham must act
Will Labour next week in the budget tell us sad stories about "difficult decisions" and how there's "no money left?"
Or will this Labour Government challenge the broken economic thinking that has lead us to this place? And tax the assets of multimillionaires & billionaires?
👀
Heavy rain and extreme weather could put millions of homes at risk of surface water flooding this winter, with El Niño increasing the likelihood of wetter conditions.
Today I asked the Mayor about plans to alert people and how we ensure people get the support they need.
With 1.5m daily cycle trips, and the potential for many more, we're expanding London's network of Cycleways.
Good to see the progress being made on the new Nine Elms bike lanes.
Badenoch tells PMQs "all of the gas" from Jackdaw "goes into the British grid". This is misleading - the grid is connected to Europe, so once gas goes into the "British grid" it's often sold abroad
And anyway, it would only produce 2-6% of UK gas output at peak. Bald men fighting over a dirty comb.
At New Cross Gate bus garage to learn about the incredible logistics behind running one of London’s biggest bus networks. Brilliant to meet staff, and get to (pretend) drive the bus!
What’s with all the spilled paint everywhere in #LondonUK at the moment? Seeing it all over the place. Bunch of parked cars covered in white paint over in Lewisham, feel sorry for the owners having to deal with that
Cognitive load being a politician is quite high. Only just realised two hours ago at a public meeting I mixed up the name of two local roads & spoke animatedly about problems affecting the wrong road name, wondered why people were looking at me funny
The Lib Dems keep making major statements *first* on X, and press releasing links to posts there. Slightly baffling given their anti-Musk (and pro-Ukraine) rhetoric
Cool how long we have been doing offshore wind in the UK. We're genuinely very good at it.
"Barrow Offshore Wind Farm is celebrating 20 years of generating renewable, home-grown electricity for the UK...two decades of operation that have helped demonstrate the long-term potential of offshore wind."
'Children living in London aged between 4 and 18 are being asked to help name two baby beavers born in west London. A family of beavers released at Paradise Fields, Greenford in 2023, returned the animal to the capital for the first time in more than 400 years.' 🦫

When we moved into our place three years ago, one thing I really wanted to do was make our garden as wildlife-friendly as possible. We've pretty much only had pigeons, robins and the occasional mouse since then. But last night, just after 4am, this happened. 😍
I like that Andy Burnham is talking about Brexit again. Keep the Faragists & Tories fighting the last war over again. Still think if there was another referendum dark money would win it again for leave, but happy to tie them up with focusing on that prospect for a few years
The Telegraph are hypocrites. Smearing people who call out Israel while publishing antisemitic and Islamophobic cartoons.
Glad we are boycotting them until they’ve apologised.
We TRIPLED our vote share.
Second best byelection result in Green Party history.
On a date that Labour chose to deliberately clash the same week as our conference.
All with a brand new PM in previously a "safe" seat.
Best response to all the absolute nonsense today?
