I expect lots of lower level staff and reporters will face the brunt of this while Allister Heath writes columns about how anyone trying to resist a takeover by our AI overlords is suffering from the woke brain disease

Press Gazette@pressgazette.co.uk

Full story: The Telegraph is making up to 100 job cuts as it cites an ambition to transform into a “global, AI-powered” business, almost four months after its takeover by Axel Springer pressgazette.co.uk/news/telegra...

I'd rather kill myself than touching a shitass clanker, and seeing the job market right now I better start saving up unemployment benefits to start saving up for sturdy rope

Not really fond of being a miserable piece of shit pushing absolute garbage produced by a bot in between 2 ai-powered meetings 7 hours a day 5 days a week If that's how the world will be then I'll make sure to promptly leave it and the pathetic losers who can't accomplish jack shit behind 🙂

All LLM use is predicated on egotism and disrespect for the disciplines of others, and it's infuriating. Authors disrespecting artists, artists disrespecting composers, composers disrespecting lyricists. Creativity in all its forms is a goddamn miracle, and we ought to acknowledge it.

Yeah it's my biggest frustration in life right now honestly. I've been unemployed for two years now, because I'm not willing to use LLMs because I genuinely like the whole process of programming and don't want to give it up. The fact people believe code isn't worth protecting is heartbreaking.

emudhra submitted intermediary CAs whose private key fit in a single MOS 6502 register and they're acting like it's not affecting the entire world in their official communication 🥀 8-bit security my brotha 😔✊

So when are we finally moving away from everything shipping their own certificate trust chain and inheriting the responsibility of responding to CA compromise? Just use the fricking system-provided certs ffs. And in containers just use a separate file for fast rebuilds + ability to patch in-place 😒

imagine we genie wish a flag onto mars that didn't improve space-fairing, or engineering, or culture or economics and noone was employed and no humans grew it takes a very special kind of ignorance to think the flag is the sole point the flag itself is just symbolic of the work

automation is supposed to target things people within any given craft consider rote and tedious, things that have almost no creative agency but when you automate things those within the craft love doing, that help us grow as artists/thinkers/designers, you're removing humanity from the craft

Hilariously, developer of a very popular npm package that implements OS-specific config/cache/data dir who said "Most developers get this wrong" got it wrong

env-paths use `Library/Preferences` on macOS for configuration files, which is incorrect per Apple's own guidelines. This folder is system-managed and should be used through the Settings API. Ad-hoc configuration files belong in `Library/Application Support`

I've been trying to say this for a while, programming is an art form. It is creative, it's technical, it requires a lot of problemsolving and it takes years to get good at it. It's a skill you have to exercise in order to get better. It's an art form.

Do you guys remember when Linus denied C++ because it's used by "substandard programmers" and "it's much much easier to generate a total and utter crap with it"?

The latest vscode design change is literally JetBrains Fleet island design that got merged into IntelliJ rofl

lmao epic games claiming vibecoding made the launcher faster when it's just that steam is fucking slow to begin with, the egs was just THAT bad if a human with actual knowledge actually spent time on it, it'd most likely be much faster 🙃

the way they phrase it is like saying "the guillotine is a miracle cure for migraines", it's stupid and goes to show the sheer incompetence of those running things over there

The funny thing with the "vibecoded" Adobe clone is that anyone who seriously interacted with Adobe's software DO NOT want to get a 1:1 clone because they suck in many ways We want the capability and integration between all components of the suite, not the UX and crashes and quirks and weirdness 🤡

Cloning existing software is completely stupid and once again steals the creative work of someone else because you're too much of a worthless piece of shit to make anything original Pro: it's enshittified from the beginning so it can't lose any value 🤡🤡🤡

Sam Altman said people are just gonna have to die in order to implement AI. In the very same week, Anthropic claimed it’s a human rights violation to be mean to the computer. These people need to be held accountable. They think lines of code are a person with rights but living people are debris.

The Verge@theverge.com

Over the past year, Anthropic has repeatedly flirted with the idea that its AI models could be conscious in some way. In February, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said on a podcast, “We don’t know if the models are conscious.”

I was doing Arch packaging shenanigans, that led me to explore the code of the project cuz I was curious about binary size and possible reductions, during which I uncovered a correctness issue and PR'd a fix without actually experiencing the bug per se Feels like a clanker move these days ugh 😣🤕

I just have one bug to fix in my changes, but I'm almost done updating the already-ported code of Rust zmij, which brings ~10% perf improvement on f64 and 50% (!!!) improvement on f32 (without enabling sse4.1; which should have an even larger perf boost) 👀

My psychiatrist when I hit them with the 46-page-long list of pros about not waking up another time and detailed rebuttals to pro life arguments

Clownflare mass-releasing clanker oriented products reminds me how they jumped onto the web3 hype train back in the day It's all abandonware, its IPFS gateway is defunct (yk, the only useful service they had), yet the latter still referenced and documented as if it was still operational 🤣

I saw someone complain about issues and comments from a user nuked from GitHub being deleted, and fwiw data fragility is exactly why I don't like Tangled (in addition to the hilariously bad `op` lexicon) Tangled ironically has a fitting name for a tangled mess of poorly portable data

Collaborative work isn't a bunch of people doing a thing in their corner like microblogging is The individuals aren't the central entity, the project is. People come and go, but the project is the root node upon which things are built

Now, aggregating these projects from a decentralised network of data servers to make a service à-la-github *does* make sense But constructing projects as a view of scattered data is just a bad design that's not portable and very fragile

Issues, PRs, and comments to my projects should be written to *my* PDS (or a designated service for collaborative data) directly, not aggregated after the fact from an append-only log that's extremely fragile because its scattered across the entire Internet

That's why I think email based flows are still vastly superior to current atproto-based stuff, because they have a topology that makes sense to begin with. Ironically, tangled is just a tangled mess of data that's all over the place because the primitive just isn't the right one

Every day, GitHub invents a new way to fuck something up My computer's time is exact down to a few milliseconds.
