This is a fascinating chart. Remember: the mainline church is actually majority Republican. But look at the divide between white mainline/non-evangelical Protestants and Evangelicals in the chart below.

Somewhat serious question for my Methodist peeps. Has Adam Hamilton worn a shirt with buttons that were the same color as his shirt like, ever?

While I do not intend to critique our bishops, who lead well, a resounding YES to the need for a refocus on strengthening the local church. I am praying for a meaningful gathering of leaders of The United Methodist Church later this month. #umc

umnews.orgLeadership Gathering should focus on local church | UMNews.orgUnited Methodist leaders have benignly neglected local congregations for too long, a pastor writes. Any effort to revitalize the denomination must focus on them.

One thing I have been thinking about is the need for renewing/restrengthening/starting urban churches. We seem to have done less and less of this as our denominational struggles have worn on. Time to refocus, church! #umc

This is a new one. I called Delta about our flights home to Atlanta due to the hurricane, and it said "Your wait time is 40 minutes, or you can chat via text for a wait time of 0 minutes." I elected for the chat, and immediately got this text: "Your estimated wait time is 4980 seconds."

Welp, I just read the Wikipedia summary of "Digger," and it may be the dumbest thing I have ever read, and I have read so many very dumb things.

There is a moment at the very very end of Abdul El-Sayed's podcast with Ezra Klein (book recommendation section) where he talks about the idea of "speaking truth to pain" and this will be staying with me for an extremely long time. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/25/o...

Yesterday, I took minutes at our called annual conference. Today, I preached twice, taught Sunday School, and led a two-hour "Generosity Roundtable" in advance of our upcoming capital campaign. So if you need me I'll be staring at the wall for awhile

Absolutely tore through John Green's new novel, "Hollywood, Ending." Best fiction I've read since "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow" by Gabrielle Zevin.

I suppose every epoch feels consequential, but “this technology will either make your life bliss or destroy humanity, so I guess we will find out together” seems pretty unique but this is the only time I have ever lived so it’s hard to say

So I'm in the driver's seat for a big capital campaign (not my first, but my biggest as senior pastor). And it is SO MUCH WORK but also PEOPLE ARE SO GENEROUS and the church IS GOING TO BE OK as long as we are willing to ask people to continue to TAKE THEIR FAITH SERIOSLY (ok sorry no more caps)

I did an analysis of all the sermons I have written since 2013. I've written *a million* words. I feel bad sometimes that I've only written one actual book since I became a pastor, but the truth is, I've written the equivalent of 12-16 books. That makes me feel better. (It also makes me tired.)

I don't follow modern pop music as closely as I used to, but I do appreciate the ability of artists--like Macklemore--to support the causes they believe in . . . because I support the ability of *everyone* to support the causes they believe in. This is what it means to have (a) faith.

When Walt Disney released Fantasia, he was slammed by critics for "dragging down" classical music . . . . . . while he was bringing classical music to a popular audience. I'm just saying, you can't do *anything* without a chorus of critics. If they are not operating in good faith, ignore them.

As somebody who grew up during the era in which there was a massive public push to reduce teen pregnancy, it’s absolutely wild to me to see people on Fox News now complaining that not enough teens are getting pregnant.

Headquarters@headquartersnews.bsky.social

Fox News complains that underage teenage girls aren’t getting pregnant enough: “The problem is teens and young adults. From ages 15-19, the fertility rate is down 70% in the last 2 decades, which means we are telling people who are young not to have babies.”
