If I had time and the right consoles/systems, I'd be snapping up this right away and playing it. Looks so good, including this art!

South of Midnight is packed with dark, gothic folklore you probably shouldn’t go digging into. Haints, boo hags, mythical creatures... All lurking in the shadows. Oh! it’s 30% off on Steam. Just saying. 👀 #SouthOfMidnight #Halloween #SouthernGothic #Folklore #IndieDev

Like Brian says. We cannot, any under circumstances, let AI firms govern the future.

Brian Merchant@bcmerchant.bsky.social

Anthropic is trying to write its own federal AI regulation law. The major AI firms have all issued feeble proposals for how their AI will serve the public, in anticipation of their pending IPOs. It's all a reminder that we cannot, any under circumstances, let AI firms govern the future.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

After the first round elections, Congressman André Janones created a WhatsApp channel titled “Lula’s Army.” It ballooned to 10 million people following his commands on how to behave online to counteract Meta’s far-right-favouring algorithms. The right knows how to use socials. We must learn, too.

The intergalactic phase of music touches upon many points. everything is every thing and outside of that is nothing. So in order to deal with the infinity, I would have to deal with the nothings and the everythings, of which each one has its different potentials. (Sun Ra)

And they built housing co-ops that *still* welcome incredibly diverse communities — the one where we live sits at the intersection of century+ old Jewish, Chinese-American, Dominican & Puerto Rican communities, is a naturally-occurring retirement community for elders, and hosts a community garden.

US garment workers helped pioneer multi-ethnic labor unions, which united people across racial, religious, gender, linguistic, and cultural divides. Also native-born citizens and immigrants. I think about that sometimes when I see people suggest such divides are unbridgeable.

“If every piece of software is a door, AI makes it exceptionally easy to turn turn the knobs of every door to see if it’s unlocked ... Not only are some of the locks easy to pick, in some cases the door is wide open or there’s a giant hole in the wall.”

The second Knives Out movie, whose conclusion (apologies for spoilers) is that its villain is not some dastardly schemer but just an outright idiot, struck me as a taking a bit of a cop out at the time, but the more it's sat with me, the more I think Rian Johnson was right to make THAT the reveal.

Just been such a revolution in my worldview to realise that people like Musk actually believe this, this isn't just the nonsense they feed the rubes so they can do coldly rational mercantile calculations in smokey rooms among themselves. No. It's rubes all the way down, they're that stupid.

I’ve been released from IDF custody with a “warning,” apparently because of my public profile (I told them I wasn’t even a congressmember yet, just a nominee). But several dozen rabbis & participants harvesting olives with me are still in detention.

This hits the freaking spot every time it pops up. Did he ever get or take the chance to use this on recordings?

A video of this was on youtube in the earliest days in 2005 when you could only find a handful of clips of whatever niche you were into. I think Weasel Walter posted it? Anyway, that changed my life.

JUST IN: The police shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley as he sat in his mother’s lap in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, Miss., in June “was justified,” Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office said on Monday. Her office will not charge the white officer who shot the child.

Hi al! I have a random Yiddish question that many or at least some might know the answer to: If I was trying to say a compound word “now-ness” in Yiddish, would that be “Itstkeit?” “Itstheit?” Something else? I hope I’m on the right track! Thank you!

Jesus f’n Christ. I play some very “proud German culture” October fest gigs this time of year, including this past weekend in northeast PA. It sucks watching drunk people excitedly waving their arms at every toast with paranoia about the position of their outstretched hands. I’m afraid it’s there.

His classic "Love Theme from Spartacus" came on last night on jazz radio WRTI on my way back from a gig and it hit the spot for my tired ears so beautifully. What an artist.

Charlee Ellerbe was for sure a live wire. I only shared concert bills with a few times, but each one left me with an unforgettable memory. He was a fiery guy with a big personality and an even bigger sound. What an honor it's been to be in community with him the amount I was. RIP.

Kind of can't stop thinking about Exxon saying they're expecting global warming to hit 5°C by 2050 and how that means something like 4 billion dead and we're all just pumping gas into our cars and having endless wars just like always. And yeah I need to fill up on dead dinosaurs too.

@joshuaraclaw.com really understands Philly weather. I was telling my older neighbor who was once again saying how it used to make sense that its as if the weather was dropped sometime in the early 2010s and broke into tons of pieces, then glued back together out of order.
