Gold from Led By Donkeys, yet again Daniel Hannan was given a peerage for being categorically wrong about Brexit. And he continues to be invited to contribute to right-wing TV and newspapers, including The Telegraph.

Nine years ago the godfather of Brexit, Lord Daniel Hannan, predicted life in Brexit Britain in June 2025. Roll the tape… (VO by @gavinesler.bsky.social. Part 2 below👇)

Finally, some progress to modernise the UK’s medieval systems. More of this, please 👏🏼

The UK government plans to abolish the centuries-old leasehold system in England and Wales, aiming to end unfair practices and unreasonable costs faced by homeowners. Housing Minister Matthew Pennycook announced that new leasehold flats will be banned, with commonhold becoming the default tenure.

In 2022, Curtis Yarvin (associated with Musk’s pal Peter Thiel) proposed a ‘CEO-dictator’ model for government overhaul, called RAGE. Now, Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) mirrors this vision, pushing mass resignations and purging ideologically. Sound familiar?

Greenland has universal healthcare, gender equality, and clean energy. Can they take over the USA instead?

I watched this too, in a mysterious combination of horror (the make-up), nostalgia (the oven, the Tupperware!), and greediness (mmm, mincemeat). Good old Fanny.

Joel Morris@gralefrit.bsky.social

I can’t recommend the weird, almost body-horror gruesomeness of this episode on mincemeat enough, but my biggest takeaway is that Fanny Craddock appears to have perfected an aesthetic that can only be described as “Samurai Thatcher”. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

Let’s look at artist compensation. On average, Spotify pays between $0.003 and $0.005 per stream ($3–$5 per 1,000 streams). Tidal pays approximately $0.0128 per stream ($12.80 per 1,000 streams), while Qobuz leads with $0.022 per stream ($22 per 1,000 streams). I’m going to trial Qobuz.

In 2019, Americans paid $16.22B **out-of-pocket** for cancer treatment. In 2023, UHC alone made $23B in profit. The 10 largest health insurers made a profit of $66.5B combined. Meanwhile, $50B in claims were denied. US health insurance profits thrive by denying care.

I thought I knew a lot about the Beatles, but I didn’t know this

Dan Neidle@danneidle.bsky.social

We don't know the taxman's view of the song, but we definitely know his view of the tax trick. He stopped it, with the "Beatles clause". This says that, if you try to convert your earnings into capital, it gets taxed as income anyway.
