"There is a revolution happening right now. It's not a woke one. It's an authoritarian one. A revolution on behalf of people who want nothing more than to smother the rights of ordinary Americans so that they and their wealthy allies can rule unmolested by accountability or consequences."
Normally I just appreciatively read @jamellebouie.net 's columns-sharable video content just isn't my bag. But this is a very, very, very trenchant piece of commentary that captures a lot of how I increasingly understand the disjunction between the commentary environment and on-the-ground politics.
In 1976, #NewYorkCity’s mayor imagined a future where everyone could safely swim, fish, and explore the #Hudson River. This week @nycmayorsfund.bsky.social Mamdani opened a time capsule from 1976.
Help Riverkeeper make that long-promised future a reality.

Trump's kinda guy.
Trump: "I buy a lot of farm equipment. I have clubs all over the place. And I'd always want really old equipment before they destroyed it with all the crap they put on. You have to go to MIT to learn how to turn on a lawnmower. You have to become a doctor of science."

The Ramaswamy ad has pushed the largest newspaper in Ohio, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, to reverse its position on endorsements.
"A candidate who uses childhood sexual abuse as a weapon against the person who endured it has crossed a line that Ohioans should defend, whatever their party."
“The Department of Justice is putting its formidable thumb on next week’s elections in a way that seems clearly intended to call into question the legitimacy of any result that is especially unfavorable to Republicans—before those results have even come in.”
Me on DOJ’s California and Alaska suits:
BREAKING: 174 bipartisan former judges are calling on the 8th Circuit to toss DOJ’s misconduct complaint against the Minnesota judges
DOJ wants them investigated & some barred from DHS cases, all for saying ICE violated 210 court orders

The lessons from Brazil and Serbia?
Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right.
Don't appease.
Don't triangulate.
Don't grovel.
Don't say they have "legitimate concerns".
Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.
Linden NJ just banned AI data centers. Linden. Linden, home of the "Linden Co-gen Plant" and all the other smokestacks that people associate with stereotypical New Jersey. If they don't want data centers in Linden, it's hard to think of anybody who is going to want them! www.nj.com/business/202...
There are only two explanations for the NYT's habit of presenting GOP operatives and donors as true swing voters:
1. Their reporters and editors are somehow incapable of running a simple Google searches, showing just a staggering level of journalistic incompetence
2. They want to the GOP to win
Hi. I, a trans woman, am the Executive Producer of this show. I wrote the question. He called trans girls men. He has now said it in three different places in the past week.
Brazil's Presidential election
Lula 64.2 million (52%)
Bolsanaro 59.8 million (48%)
Lula is +10.5 million and Bolsanaro +2.7 million on first round there were almost +3 million more votes cast in the second round, as well as 9 million votes (8%) for other candidates in the 45% to 47% first round.
I don’t think I will ever get used to McDonalds using an Old Dirty Bastard song about prostitution to sell their Monopoly promotion.
The cognitive dissonance is too strong for me.
This story is about the tiny minority of tenants who oppose the city’s plan to replace their crumbling old buildings with new ones—with zero tenant displacement!—because they want the city to spend money it does not have and will not get to renovate the old buildings instead.
Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights:

Anthony Constantino has spent millions of his own money to boost his chances in a deep-red House district. The polls show a tight race, and the reason is Anthony Constantino. Alex MacDougall reports.
CA cities that disapprove housing projects are in a world of hurt. New Court of Appeal decision sets up developer lawsuits for damages, at least where state law requires a ministerial permit (SB 35/423, AB 2011, SB 684, and more).

Josh, you mean to tell me, in the US, in Oct 2026…you couldn’t find ANY BETTER MESSAGE to spend your precious political dollars on…than to punch down on ~7 people, who have done *nothing* to harm you…while there are masked, armed militia out here *kidnapping people off the streets*?? REALLY?
Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet.
Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well.
Horrific.
There are people, even some trans people, who think that we can give up sports to appease bigots.
That if we give up on sports, this all goes away.
That is a lie.
I have reported on this for years, and EVERY state that passed a sports ban as a moderate compromise has gone on to pass worse.
Wether it’s Vivek attacking a sexual assault victim or Acton being assaulted as a 12yo, both sides are at fault.
Thank you for having the courage to say this Joe Manchin
this is fantastic but what’s even funnier is that it passed 8-1 with the only NO vote being… Connie Chan.
she might just be the biggest NIMBY in California, which isn’t an easy title to win
The SHADE Act has been passed into law today by Mayor Lurie!
Over the past 10 years, over 2000 units of housing have been blocked or delayed because NIMBYs said the housing would cast a "shadow".
So we're done letting red tape cast shade over our housing future.
If ever I die on a bike, it's most likely that I screamed something mean to a car/truck driver who had just almost killed me and then they actually killed me. I'm trying to not pop off in this revved-up, bike-hating time, but not doing great. Anyway, beautiful day for a ride. Stay safe! #bikenyc
Mike Lawler is breaking under the pressure of a blue wave in blue NY-17. Symptoms include last-minute infusions of More Musk Money and uncontrollable rage posting. It's the perfect time to knock more doors this weekend!
Meanwhile, Mike Lawler is crashing out over on Facebook, punching at his own Republican constituents…who in turn are wasting no time punching back with accusations of threats and intimidation.
Take note, #NY17.
This is #TheRealMikeLawler.
Just finished whipping up a presentation for Transportation Camp NYC. Let's see if the crowd goes for it...
Come! Today, 370 Jay St, Brooklyn. 9:30 till... Only costs $30.
Like public health, transportation is an inherently collective endeavor.
"Your decision [whether to get a vaccine] is going to affect everybody else. It's the same thing with transportation. If you choose to get a big car, you're affecting the well being of everybnody else on the street."

This absolutely beggars belief. As far as you can see, the land has vanished. A quarter of a million trees gone, chopped down by Google. They even removed 330 hectares of forest floor and topsoil. Wildlife displaced. Wolves moving into town. All just for data.

💯 In fact, every local government should be free to install automated traffic enforcement.
The only thing States should do is set reasonable regulations on how/where the equipment can be installed.
Big yes, and thanks to @nydailynews.com for highlighting this basic home rule issue! NYC shouldn't need Albany's permission to expand red-light cameras. Red-light running has dropped 80% where cameras are installed. Albany must lift the 600-intersection cap. buff.ly/FlzxACU
On the same week the DCCC released its first anti-transgender ad, popular Democratic politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did not mince words.
When asked about anti-trans Democrats, she called them "shameful," "wrong," and decried them for "scaring so easily."

In 2022, Mike Lawler said: “Before you vote tomorrow, fill up your tank and go grocery shopping — it will inform your decision.” So we took him up on that.
Before early voting starts tomorrow, try it. Then tell me if the system’s working for you.
It shouldn’t be this hard. You deserve better.
The media walk a tightrope between covering potential election interference and making voters so despondent that they avoid the ballot box altogether.
@micahloewinger.bsky.social recently spoke with @rickhasen.bsky.social about which headlines should hold our attention — and which are distractions.
A luxury apartment complex in West Hempstead received $7M+ in tax breaks without providing a single affordable unit. Our John Kaehny tells Newsday: “The argument for subsidizing market-rate [housing] is absolutely absurd.” Public subsidies should deliver public benefits. buff.ly/vkY7vRR
