Britons should use money we haven't got to buy food the country doesn't grow, store it in homes that don't exist, in spare rooms that got taxed away, so we can survive when reservoirs nobody built run dry because of a climate the govt won't protect.

Today is the birthday of Jerry Siegel, co-creator of Superman, who changed the pop culture landscape in a single bound. There wouldn't be a comic book business as we know it without him.
We all stand on his shoulders.
Call me a masochist, but I'm returning to this issue, as I feel it has been poorly understood. Please read the whole thread before responding.
First, I hope we can agree that the Israeli government is committing genocide in Gaza and horrific crimes in the West Bank and the wider region.
Film studies should be taught as mandatory as maths, English, science etc. in schools. It would expose you to different cultures, languages, time periods, music. It would promote empathy and understanding of other people's struggles and successes. Hugely beneficial to society.
In May of 1940 there was a mass panic in Britain - stirred up by the tabloid press - about 'fighting aged men' who had come to Britain as 'refugees' posing a threat to the women and children of this country - and essentially forming a 'fifth column' that could, at any moment rise up against everyone
Given how many birds are tooling around above us in the sky and shitting freely, it's a miracle we don't get shat on more often. Hats off to birds, they're doing a great job.
What happened to all the biblical level miracles? It was easy to believe in God thousands of years ago. He was doing crazy shit left right and centre. Parting seas, walking on water, raising the dead etc. You'd have thought he'd still drop the odd one in to remind us he's there.
There is no one perfect version of Superman. There are numerous iterations and versions that all stem from a central idea and even that idea went through fifteen permutations. Thus, there is no truly “right” version of Superman…just one that you vibe with the most.
I bet you there are people in Star Trek that don't believe in warp drives. Some illiterate redneck in the middle of nowhere is ordering Bud Lights out of the replicator and ranting about how Starfleet is a Vulcan conspiracy, teleporters make you gay, Tellarites aren't real, etc
I know you're not allowed to say this during the current debate, but the reason the left dominates academics, art, comedy, and music is that the right has stupid, discredited ideas, they're not funny, and dull resentment does not make for good art. No grand conspiracy required.
Furious that Chris Nolan would disregard historical accuracy in adapting The Odyssey by making a "movie" with "cameras" instead of memorizing the entire story and then going on a nationwide tour to sing it to us while tripping on ergotized barley
😱😱😱 And just like that, it’s completely VANISHED from the media.
A sitting congressman, Ted Lieu, said on the record the Epstein files are being blocked because they show Trump raped and threatened to kill children.
Lets make this viral again 👇
Today the UK celebrates 250 years of independence from the tyranny of the United States of America. Imagine living in a society where the leader can repeatedly break the law and nobody stops them!
If you don’t like comic book/superhero movies, fine, they’re not to your taste, no worries. But if you proudly present your disdain as a sign of virtue, an indication of what refined cinematic taste you have, well, then you annoy the fuck out of me.
If Starmer goes it will be five PMs in four years.
Unprecedented?! No.
The post pandemic 1920s saw a new challenger party, and a tousled haired, lecherous, corrupt leader succeeded by a burst of PMs.
Five PMs… from three parties …. in two years and a month.
BREAKING:
Indigenous white people commit riot and arson.
Incompetent indigenous white police fire water cannon.
Indigenous white politicians who fucked up our economy discuss "legitimate concerns" in lying newspapers owned by indigenous white tax evaders.
Immigrants somehow remain the problem.
250 years ago exactly Britain was locked in an unwinnable war with a distant, poor yet stubborn opponent.
The French ambassador wrote: "This ruinous and mad war is the reverse of the philosopher's stone."
Happy anniversary.

Notice how a book can make you gay, a vaccine can make you autistic, a mask can make you sicker, and a poster of the Ten Commandments can make you moral, but guns don’t kill people.
To be clear, the Republicans who policed all of our speech when Charlie Kirk was killed, & who jump on anyone who doesn’t mourn their heroes correctly, have just opened the door for every liberal & leftist in America to post ‘Good, I’m glad he’s dead” when Trump eventually dies.
We should set up an exchange program where we swap the good dead people for some of the living assholes we have lying around and don't really need anymore
Say what you will about Quentin Tarantino, but the end of Inglorious Bastards made some interesting points about how we should have dealt with the Nazis.
Look, it makes strategic sense; if Venezuela has huge reserves of teenage Latin American beauty pageant contestants, then access needs to be secured to that supply, if necessary using military force.
Alas, my days of regularly listening to @untitledstartrekproject.com are now numbered so I better get on with ticking off some of the essentials while I can.
I guess I'll be cancelling my @netflixuk.bsky.social subscription in January when Star Trek leaves since that was the only thing worth keeping it for.

When it came out, I felt The Force Awakens cut world-building corners to repeat A New Hope, but 10 years on, its depiction of a world where embittered fanboys lean into totalitarianism and extremely recent history has been forgotten (if not repressed) seems prescient. My bad, JJ Abrams.
A Christmas Carol is a story about how children suffer and die from treatable illnesses because the wealthy choose to keep them in poverty.
It also correctly notes that the only thing a rich bastard fears is the inevitably of death.
It even has Muppets in it. Truly Dickens' most timeless work.
WB: What do you have planned for Batman 2?
Tim Burton: We open on a newborn baby boy
WB: Aww
TB: No. The baby is ugly. He kills and eats a house cat while it's still alive. His parents try to kill him in his crib, but to Gotham's woe, they fail
WB: ...
TB: Also it's a Christmas movie
