Before the US tries to return to normal, I’d like to have an unstable democratic president who unilaterally forces universal healthcare, sues insurance companies, and sends random CEOs to countries no one has ever heard of.
I take your point, but that Daily Beast story is dogshit that just uncritically repeats all the admin's claims about what she saved, etc. I invite you to have a better one!

Scientists have found the first compelling evidence that cognitive training can boost levels of a brain chemical that typically declines as people age.
CHOTINER: So You created us right
GOD: Yes
CHOTINER: In Your image
GOD: Yes
CHOTINER: And sometimes we do bad things
GOD: Oh Yes
CHOTINER: And then you send plagues and floods
GOD: OK I think I see where you are going with this
When people tragically die, they are supposed to be anonymous enough for everyone to simply accept that they “always lit up the room”.
This, on the other hand…
No, he was not practicing politics in exactly the right way. He was a demagogue. He was a racist, misogynistic, liar, unconcerned with any group he wasn’t part of. That he was successfully persuasive does not make him one of the good guys on the other side.
I have a couple of comments about the "free speech hero" narrative about Charlie Kirk.
First, was Charlie Kirk really notable for supporting the free speech of people he disagreed with? I haven't noticed that, though I could have missed it.

A good way to honor Charlie Kirk’s memory would be to buy some guns, discriminate against trans people, advocate for sending away brown people, and subjugating women
Charlie Kirk spent his adult life spreading hate and fear. He deliberately made life harder for minorities, immigrants and those who are different.
Maybe you agreed with him, maybe you didn't. But those are facts. Everyone knows it. People and organizations venerating him are telling on themselves.
He was just, like, a guy. Not a politician. Not a statesman of any kind. Just some really mean guy. Flags at half mast. Yankee moment of silence. Whatever the shit this is.
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
Is it really necessary to cover Charlie Kirk on every news channel? He didn’t just have different views on the capital gains tax. He was a destructive force in US politics in very malignant ways. He was killed in gun violence, that he, himself, said was worth tolerating. Who was worse? Nick Fuentes?
Charlie Kirk called me a ‘lunatic’ and a ‘prostitute’ and demanded I be deported.
Nothing, *nothing*, justifies killing him, or robbing his kids of their dad.
We don’t know the identity or motive of the shooter but murder can *never* be the response to political disagreements.
Like many Never Trumpers and other people with a public profile, I have been on the receiving end of death threats for years just for speaking my mind.
No one in America should risk being killed for exercising their right to speak, no matter how despicable you think their views might be.
I don't feel any particular joy in Charlie Kirk getting shot. It's not the sort of thing I celebrate.
But I also struggle to care when someone gets the very thing they've wished for openly, on multiple occasions, in multiple iterations, for literal years, b/c they thought it would be someone else.
As Scooby Doo taught millions of TV watchers: if the deceased villain's best friend tells you there's nothing worth seeing inside the locked closet ... there's probably something worth seeing inside the locked closet.
Doctors at the CDC say children should receive Covid vaccines. A disgraced ex-environmental lawyer who spent 20 years abusing heroin says they shouldn't. For busy parents, it can be hard to know who to trust.
