Pedro Sanchez 👏

Nick Lloyd@spaincivilwartours.bsky.social

This new electoral vídeo from Pedro Sánchez is quite something. Standing in front of Guernica defending the anti-war stance of his government, limiting military expenditure, denouncing the atrocity of Gaza. English subtitles.

Please submit your small ideas for fixing Britain to the Small-Ideas.org website. It’s a new charitable initiative I’ve set up to try and make sure life’s potholes don’t get ignored. Working with two charities and a cross party panel to turn your ideas into policy then try and make it happen.

My cousin’s shirt took me a second. He said “it’s great because anyone who would be offended by it couldn’t understand it anyway.”

Sigh Corruption is endemic. You have a moment of hope that there's a new PM who really could do the right thing for the country and almost immediately. This is a massive mistake by Burnham. Massive.

I have written to the Cabinet Secretary to seek assurances that the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, who was lobbying for the privatised water industry until recently, has had no involvement in talks about the future of Thames Water.

...beautiful self-deprecation. Anyway go and see him as they will no doubt sell out to the tiny hand brigade. Alas I had to come home to Stafford

Three late-night shows for me in Edinburgh tomorrow, Friday, Saturday. There are a handful of tickets left for each. If you had enormous hands, hands like Gulliver's. www.edfringe.com/tickets/what...

We are seeing a proliferation of sprawling AI data centres, digital vampires greedily sucking up water and power we can ill-afford to spare. If you need an exponential increase in computing power for an incremental increase in AI capability, the technological solution you are pursuing is a dead-end

Sounds great. Except that the property magnates who actually control policy are corrupt to the core. You couldn't get any of this past them

Pete Baird@petebaird.bsky.social

Labour won't introduce rent controls because they give in to lobbying from property developers! 🥀 If Andy Burnham was serious about tackling the cost-of-living, he would introduce this. We need rent controls! 🏠

Good. ASI is possibly the biggest threat to humanity, which is quite a claim given Climate Change and the rise of authoritarianism. Awareness needs to be raised. #ifanyonebuildsiteveryonedies

If Trump’s concern was drugs, he’d not have pardoned Honduras’s corrupt leader; if terrorism, he’d have gone after Iran; if world order, Russia; if preserving US power, China. If democracy, human rights or humanitarian motive, dozens of other worthy cases. What’s left is oil. And Epstein.

This incredible quote by playwright and #humanist George Bernard Shaw (recited here by Jeff Goldblum) feels like the perfect way to start a new week: Shaw’s words remind us that life isn’t something to be cautiously preserved or merely endured: it’s something to be lived with purpose✨

This is majestically furious and rightly so. In the face of far right savagery, a lot of people who think themselves reasonable can’t even manage the moral basics

So either Labour need to ask candidates to step aside for the Greens to take on Reform.... Or actually bring in a fair democratic process where everyone's votes count equally. It's time for Proportional Representation. www.thenational.scot/news/2558507...

This is from my friend, Nabil, in Gaza today. He says there is NO food left. He has never sounded so in despair. Israel is carrying out war crimes; violating international humanitarian law; inflicting collective punishment on a captive people; trying to starve them into submission. It’s obscene.

Top news story on the Express website this morning. Labour will never understand that offering a couple of toes to nibble will never be enough for those craving to gorge on human flesh, while those nauseated by cannibalism will be put off by every possible aspect of their surrender.

Incredibly depressing day. I've spent my entire life being told by British governments how dreadful immigration is. New Labour did it. The Coalition. The Brexiters. Now Starmer. All of them accusing the ones who came before them of failing to clamp down. The same old vacant mean-spirited bollocks.

He’s got away with untold crimes, lies & offences. He’s achieved the highest office in the land. Twice. He’s lining his pockets on an industrial scale & persecuting his enemies for fun. But he’s still a miserable, bitter, humourless & furious man. Because deep inside, he knows *exactly* who he is.

I find this ridiculously comforting

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

If the 2010s were marked by techno-solutionism, then the 2020s might be the decade of "natural solutionism". Both are flawed, disdain the regulatory state, and in both "expertise is treated as suspect, corrupt, or altogether illegitimate, with anecdotes and mantras replacing verifiable data"

newrepublic.comThe Flawed Ideology That Unites Grass-Fed Beef Fans and Anti-VaxxersFrom RFK Jr. to Hollywood A-listers and Democratic senators, people across the political spectrum are jumping onto the slippery slope of nature-based solutionism.

Waiting to hear this from Starmer

Few things certain anymore. But expect over the next four years almost every one of the US’s ‘allies’ will end up saying something very similar. The only question is how long it takes.

This is hugely positive news & shows how Labour can get it right. The Government has beefed up its Workers’ Rights Bill to make it more pro-worker. A series of significant changes on workplace rights and the right to strike have been slipped out by ministers 👏 bylinetimes.com/2025/03/25/k...
