“Cyclists are often perceived as recklessly flaunting road laws. A new study challenges this perception. The study found only 5% of cyclists broke road rules while riding on bike infrastructure versus 66% of motorists who broke rules while driving.” Safe bike infrastructure fuels rule-following.

this is extremely disheartening news especially the "tried to cover it up" part if you were a capitalist company, out to make all the money you possibly can, would you do anything different to customers in a country you're in a trade war with?

hey #bikesky! I built an app that makes running a bike valet easier! a simple web app that sends SMS to riders instead of a clipboard and a roll of raffle tickets. i’m doing this just for fun, so share with your local bike group and DM if they’d be interested in trying it out for free!

One of the biggest joy-killers of US cycling infrastructure is how narrow it is. Forcing everyone into a single-file line ruins the experience. Cycling is social, and our paths need to be wide enough to actually enable that.

Here’s a SERIOUS question. What if our property tax system was actually fair, and was based on public costs actually incurred to support housing? What if low density housing had to pay its way, rather than being subsidized by responsible infill housing? What if we stopped incentivizing sprawl?

Brent Toderian@brenttoderian.bsky.social

It costs the City of Ottawa $465/person each year to serve new low-density homes, over & above what it receives from property taxes/fees. On the other hand, high-density infill such as apartment buildings pays for itself plus an extra $606/person each year. Sprawl costs, infill saves. #UrbanTruth
