Bolsonaro's loss is not just a loss for Bolsonaro. It's a loss for Trump. For Musk. For Milei. For Netanyahu. For Farage. For Meta and Zuckerberg. For the meat barons, the fossil fuel corporations, and the rest of the neocolonial looters. And it is a massive win for humanity and the living planet.

How salt marshes can offer coastal protection from storms.

Nature Portfolio@natureportfolio.nature.com

Salt marshes can survive extreme wave events with modest erosion but are likely to offer the best flood protection to coastlines that experience moderate storms, according to research in Nature. go.nature.com/4yDJ7yz 🌎🧪

Replying to @nadiawhittomemp.bsky.social

True energy security comes from rapidly expanding homegrown renewables, not continuing our reliance on volatile fossil fuels. The idea that we need more drilling to fund them is exactly what the fossil fuel lobby wants us to believe.

It doesn't really matter whether you're a right-wing populist or a left-wing-cosplaying government, if you allow and enable more oil and gas then the effect on the climate, nature and the world's poorest is the same either way: crisis, destruction and death.

George Monbiot@georgemonbiot.bsky.social

Approving the Jackdaw gas field solves none of our problems, while contributing to the existential crisis of climate breakdown. The government has privileged special interests above the general interest. It's a shameful, cowardly decision.

Unbelievable weakness by Andy Burnham. Shell 1 - The rest of us 0.

Horse chestnut have difficulty regenerating in native range in Balkans. Did missing megafauna used to spread horse chestnut in Europe? Another example why rewilding looks back beyond the last ice age to understand the missing ecological processes that contributed to much greater past biodiversity.

The winner of Nobel peace prize doing what the Government of the United Kingdom will not do: calling Israel's actions in Gaza a genocide.

Saul Staniforth@saulstaniforth.bsky.social

EU ban on lead in gunshot. Applies to Northern Ireland too. 🥳

BirdLife Europe & Central Asia@birdlifeeurope.bsky.social

WE WON. Lead in gunshot will finally be banned across the EU! Just now, the European Parliament approved in plenary the Commission's proposal to restrict lead in gunshot. This decision ends years of debate on one of Europe's most persistent forms of lead pollution.

Wise words in this thread - "What does the evidence tell us the land can sustain? What do the places we belong to ask of us? And how do we negotiate the remaining choices fairly, together?" We should think like this with all land.

But don't ospreys build their own nests? Tim takes us into his world of ‘thinking like an osprey’ and explains why these pioneering birds sometimes need a helping hand. The episode is out now. Listen wherever you get your podcasts.

Dear Irish Government, If we overlook the small fact of our future survival, what part of a potential €26 billion in climate compliance costs do you not understand? Trumpian idiocy. 🤬

Paul Price@swimsure.bsky.social

"On a per capita basis, Ireland is subsidising fossil fuels at a rate up to 5 times the EU average." "The total fossil fuel subsidy figure for 2026 may well now be more than €6 billion." Compare: the new Children’s Hospital cost €2.24 billion & the total Education Budget for 2026 is €13.5 billion.

Sure, AI companies steal ideas, creativity & expertise to monetise them on a colossal scale. And OK, they’re losing literally billions every week in this gigantic Ponzi scheme. But at least they’re also threatening to wipe out humanity as well, so let’s all try to keep some perspective here.

Perhaps the Ireland team and FAI should follow Gavin Bazunu, show some courage and boycott the next match... or fail again to add pressure on Israel after the mass UN walkout?

Mother Jones@motherjones.com

Ireland goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu boycotted his team's match against Israel on Sunday. “My decision is based purely upon my personal belief that the killing of innocent people is wrong."

I'm not a religious person, but if there were such a thing as the Antichrist, he would do what Trump does every day. Destroying our beautiful planet and the lives of its people for the sake of A. profit and B. a vengeful urge to destroy what other people love. So yes, demonic is the right word.
