I wanted to like Episode 1 so badly. I was so excited in the theater. I convinced myself it wasn't as bad as it was. I saw it a second time, even. It wasn't until I saw Episode 2 that I realized they were just not good movies. If they weren't Star Wars, they would have been forgotten to time.

How many great game design ideas came from a random mistake or just the natural process of trying to find a solution? How many "happy accidents" (like Bob Ross would say) are we throwing away with AI? The process is inexorably linked to the output. You can't remove one without impacting the other.

Next Fest is really demonstrating the curse of the idea guy. Anyone can have an idea or steal one, but to make it good means living with it, working it, exploring it and finding what makes it work and is special. Or you can just have Claude shit out slop no one wants to play. Valve always needs

right now there's no guarantee AI usage becomes embedded in indie games. We're a scene. We don't HAVE to be this. Individual choices couldn't matter more in this moment. To see that you can make a small, positive impact at mild inconvenience to yourself and say "nah" is to give up on a better world.

the "you can't avoid AI, it's in all software now" argument might be true for infrastructure, where we have limited agency over the platforms and systems that make up our society, but is hilariously untrue for video games, a completely optional and easily ignored part of all of our lives
