part of being a millennial so elder I am in kissing distance of gen x is that I am both terminally online and constantly baffled and horrified by the deeply personal shit people will share on social media
pleased to say I have remembered most of the names...
ALSO, this little duology is so weird, I love it dearly, hopefully at some point I will actually get to tell you about it properly
ALSO ALSO I have seen the cover for the first one and it might legit be one of my faves
writing the synopsis for book 2 of this new duology and the best thing is I'm also in the middle of writing another book in a different series, so I can't remember anyone's names. Wheeeeee
It is here!
The Bishop of Durham Attempts to Surrender the City is set in Susanna Clarke's world of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, and is a very handsomely bound little tome.

Jack Lowden's face just too likeable for Bond, surely? He's a sweetie (I have very boring Bond opinions: I want book accurate Bond, where he is a Total Shit, wears incredible suits, spends a lot of time having fancy breakfasts in hotels, drinks insane amounts of booze, set in the 60s)

I've talked about it often on panels, but one of the reasons The Ninth Rain is the way it is was because I wanted to write the Collector Ship Sequence in a fantasy novel
Ah sad to hear about Bioware. It's very possible that The Copper Promise wouldn't exist without Dragon Age Origins, and it's likely that the Winnowing Flame trilogy would be very different without Mass Effect. Games that will live in my top five forever.

since it's spooky season I should probably remind you that I've written 3 scary books, and as you might expect from a fantasy writer moonlighting as a horror writer, they're pretty weird. Please check them out, I LOVE SCARY THINGS
(I think of them as my Pink Trilogy)
Finished @sennydreadful.bsky.social's The Copper Promise last night, a really fun fantasy, clearly written by someone with a genuine love of the genre.
Much to my delight, we're going to be visiting Edinburgh soon!
So, bluesky, the most important question: best places to eat in Edinburgh?
(you all had excellent recommendations for Glasgow!)
Noticing the nights drawing in? 🌙
October brings a big shift, with most of the UK losing over 2 hours of daylight this month.
Do you enjoy the cosy evenings or miss the longer days?

Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.
I fell in love with The Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson, but it is dense and most of my friends don’t like it. Also loved The Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb.
Go back to the source, 18th Baron Dunsany. King of Elfland's Daughter or for a short read, The Kith of the Elf Folk (Not just saying that because I just illustrated it. I pitched the book because I love Lord Dunsany) also From The Dust Returned by Ray Bradbury.
M.A. Carrick's "Rook & Rose" trilogy (The Mask of Mirrors, The Liar's Knot, and Labyrinth's Heart).
Adrian Tchaikovsky's Philosopher Kings series (starting with "City of Last Chances," which I felt showed his writing going up another level. Again.)
Slightly depends if super long is a problem for rekindling. But Robin Hobb - maybe Liveships trilogy (though the whole cycle is incredible)

The Year of Our War by Steph Swainston. A bunch of selfish ne'er do wells granted immortality by the emperor bicker and plot amongst themselves while leading mankind's fight for survival against an endless rapacious horde of horse-sized insects covering the land in their chewed-paper hives.
