Since 2004, this community has helped make Firefox and the open internet possible. Our “Come Back to Firefox” campaign reunites a few early internet icons to remind people what made the internet special, and why it’s worth protecting.

Thank you for trying Placita. We read every reply and message. Fixed since Saturday: sign-in on iPhones and slow phones, and place search now follows the map. Next: small fixes, faster importing & city guides beyond Barcelona! Y sí, pronto también en español. Es una placita, al fin y al cabo. 🇪🇸

Thanks to everyone who tried Placita this weekend! I'm reading every message. If something broke or felt confusing, reply here or use the Report page on @placita.app. I'll fix the small things first.

I am this 🤏 close to launching @placita.app in public Alpha. I'm a perfectionist, so it takes longer than I want. I keep fixing small details nobody will see 😅 Almost there. Who wants to try it first?

Small update from the Placita desk. We're in the home stretch. Not the finish line, the stretch before it. The part where you check everything twice and eat lunch at your desk. No date yet. We'll tell you when it's ready.

The one I'd actually point you to first: @sifa.id. It's my professional profile, built entirely on the AT Protocol. If you're hiring or just curious what I've worked on, start there. I'd love to retire LinkedIn one day but for now it remains...

It also translates itself into Dutch, Spanish and French on the fly, self-hosted, no Google in the loop. Dark mode, obviously 😉 Built with Astro, running on my own homelab, open source end to end. More small but ambitious AT Protocol projects coming!

Watching the #WSocial drama this week was entertaining, but it's a reminder: secure online identity is still unsolved, and we need it. My two cents: this isn't a job for companies to build or run. Innovation moves fast in private hands, but speed isn't what matters here. Trust does.

I think this belongs with government. I'm hopeful about the European Digital Identity Wallet, and would like to see platforms plug into it when they need to verify someone, instead of rolling their own half-baked system.

Quick question for the Barcelona crowd. What's the one place you always send visitors to, and never actually saved anywhere? Tell us below. We're collecting them for Placita.

Please think before you accept terms and conditions, or just don’t use Meta products at all!!

Tuta@tuta.com

Meta doesn’t just want to know what you post. With Muse, it also wants to access what you do. Meta is advertising that its AI agent Muse can:  🚩 Answer your emails 🚩 Make purchases 🚩 Manage your online accounts But would you really hand Zuck's company the keys to your digital life? 🔑

DON'T scan your face (or ID card) for ANY non-government online service.

Damn this is huge! 😱

Holy shit. Someone has decompiled the Adobe suite, rebuilt it in Rust and released it as open source. Either all software is dead or the US copyright laws are about to receive an update. getartcraft.com/apps

The last weeks I’m working on a passion project of mine. Can’t wait to finally release it soon! 👀🤩 It will be private alpha first so if people are interested in testing this out, you can reach out… 😉

Placita@placita.app

You know that place you saved somewhere? Neither do we. We're building Placita: a home for places you want to go and places you want to keep. Starting in Barcelona, with city guides and recommendations from people you follow on the way. More soon.

Jouw data, jouw keuze. Welke overstap maak jij vandaag?

Woke up to a hacked website. Someone had been inside my self-hosted WordPress since late July: 52 fake admin accounts, back doors in my plugins, ads injected into visitors' pages. Cleaned up, patched, origin locked down. Lesson learned: self-hosting means you have to look. I had not, for a month...

I'm looking for a Terminal CLI and replacement for #Termius on MacOS and iPadOS. it's honestly been pretty great but the sync option to iPadOS is behind a paywall and i have a lot of hosts + i do use the SFTP function a lot. anyone got any good alternatives?

The AI summit in Barcelona was a crazy experience. So many thoughts and ideas to work on now! On top of that my Mac Mini M6 finally arrived so it’s gonna be a crazy couple of days/weeks to set it all up and start working on some of my ideas and projects 💡
