So you go from the 1500s Italian game "mallet ball," or pallamaglio, to the French "pallemaille," to the English name "pall-mall," to an elongated area where you would play pall mall being called a "mall," to a walking area being called a mall, to an indoor shopping area being called a mall.

Used to love walking through the local market on weekends. Now it's just AI slop signs everywhere. I'll go home and cook a meal instead.

Trying to use the models for things outside of coding / ml, like making slides or coherent plans or longish content design, makes me feel the AGI-is-going-to-take-a-while.

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

Sovereign AI shouldn’t mean building everything yourself. It means choosing your models, compute, data, and infrastructure, with the freedom to change them. We’re investing millions to make that practical, led by our new GM Patricia Prewitt. tailscale.com/blog/soverei...

A real find on the street in a free pile. Here's something we've lost to time: a forgotten mini-series and novelization. Reading this sort of thing was what people did instead of doomscrolling.

Went to the beach today and all the domains I bought were looking at me weird

For gigs, local-first makes a lot of sense. A player that isn't waiting on a connection is one less thing to worry about.

I'm in the market for a "team brain" for a small company (<10 people). Wishes: - Ability to dump in PDFs, spreadsheets, text files, URLs, etc - Fast, accurate, and up-to-date search to answer questions like "where's the latest employment contract template?"

Most movie analysis is about the art of movie making for other movie makers and not enough about what the movie maker was trying to convey through their art. The message gets lost because nobody talks about it

If you are looking for tech alternatives: don't evaluate a system by how it behaves today but by who can change the rules, and what it costs you to leave when they do.

It's okay to suck at something. Draw a bad picture. Write a terrible blog post with typos. Write some bugs in your code. Try and use Heelys and fail. Make an ugly sweater. Get out there and create something. You may suck at it, or you might be sort of good.
