42. Luigi's Mansion - 7 hrs
The gameplay is easy to learn. The mechanics are a ton of fun. The graphics are some of the best the GameCube has to offer. The music is top notch. Paced perfectly and is an easy recommend. I had a blast revisiting this! Remains one of my all time favorites.
Side Quests is back and so is host @louardongames.bsky.social! He is an indie game developer, artist, writer, and warrior fighting atop the Pillar of Sacrifice! The game he is talking about today is Only One by Ernest Szoka.

41. Penguin Colony - 4 hrs 42 min
Go play this game. ORIGAME DIGITAL never disappoints. The less you know going into it the better. If you love creepy things, H.P. Lovecraft, PSX polygonal aesthetics, incredible music, killer sound design, awesome narration and penguins then this is a must play.
We are joined by Chris from @consolesandstuff.bsky.social for a console retrospective on the PSP; The games, the experience, the Universal Media Disc.

Signing off this week by finally processing all the emotions I've been feeling since Wednesday. It's been nearly a decade since Andromeda, and after years of uncertainty as the BioWare was jerked around by EA, I finally have to grieve the series that made me who I am today.

One day after EA shut down BioWare, a trailer has begun circulating for what some claim was supposed to be Mass Effect 5, a game called Mass Effect: Universe starring Liara T'Soni and a new protagonist. https://kotaku.com/mass-effect-5-universe-leaked-trailer-liara-bioware-2000748858
We are off to the Hinterlands to meet with a Chantry Cleric who believes in the Inquisitionโs capacity to help & has advice on how to handle Chantry naysayers who would rather see the us sentenced for our potential involvement in the death of Divine Justinia.

Casting a net of questionable size here, if youโre an ex-BioWare dev (or know of one who may not see this) working on something cool youโd like featured in a roundup at Kotaku, drop it below. Store page links helpful, and let me know what your role was at BW. Projects big and small welcome! RTs plz!
Tried to keep mostly calm here. BioWare management shouldn't be let off the hook for its own part in the troubles of the past decade, but every story we hear about how EA mismanaged the studio is a reminder that this was entirely avoidable.
EA was founded in 1985. It bought and closed its first game company in 1987.
Killing studios is the one thing EA has been able to do consistently well.
Donโt know how to say it other than, creatives are currently enduring an Era of Punishment from rich people who just despise people with functioning brains.
I loved the work I did at BioWare.
I love the characters I wrote & collaborated on, the people I worked with. I learned so much from so many smart, talented, kind folx & all of that made me a better writer & person.
Big, complicated feelings today but also, sadness.
Much love, folx. I remember.
Electronic Arts is shuttering RPG maker BioWare and canceling the next Mass Effect, amid a new round of layoffs at the publisher.

i think its also really important to NOT blame veilguard for this. no matter what, EAs mismanagement and disregard is the core issue. no matter what veilguard did or didn't do, it was going to be blamed. i NEED people to understand that it was never going to meet 10 years of built expectations &
Truly, TRULY wonder how much of the BIOWARE IS GAY AND MAKES GAY THINGS perception plus wanting to make new owners (aka, government of SA) happy is at play. bsky.app/profile/jaso...

The BioWare news is heartbreaking and infuriating in equal measure. That teams games pioneered choice-based storytelling in a way that fundamentally shaped games as we know them. It deserved that one last shot at Mass Effect. Such a shame.
I feel obliged to once again reiterate that lay offs and closures are not a reaction to the economy, but a failure of leadership. Each wave of closures and layoffs should be looked upon as a consequence of greed and incompetence. If you can't keep your people employed, you are bad at your job.
I was at BioWare over 12 years. It's where I got started writing games.
I met and worked alongside wonderful people. Kind, talented, passionate. I learned a lot. I helped create some amazing stories that I'm glad made it out into the world.
The people and the stories are what I cherish most.
In literal tears. Devastated. They shaped who I am as lover of games, as a queer nonbinary person & as a storyteller. They made some of the most important games in the whole art form & made me feels seen in the art I loved. Thank you everything BioWare. My heart goes out to everyone effect by this.
