That AI models usually produce something better when asking them to "work extra hard on this" really sends the wrong message to middle management.

I'm delighted to announce the forensic recovery of the original single-stroke font data from Vib-Ribbon (1999) — exhumed from Playstation ROMs — and now part of my archive of procedural skeleton fonts for #p5js: github.com/golanlevin/p... #mediaArchaeology #typography #plotterArt #creativeCoding

I had the immense honour of being invited to work on the World Bank's Atlas of Global Development 2026 project last year and today it finally launched. I couldn't be more excited, it has been a career highlight to work with such an amazing team on this.

Last chance! April 30th is the deadline (yes, only two weeks from today!) for submitting a paper to the @visualisingclimate.com summit. 📊 🇮🇹 Note: Uploading the FULL paper is required by that date! Same submission deadline, April 30th, for a ‘talk only’ (without a paper) 👉 visualisingclimate.com 👈

I've been working on a new shader language called "easl". The goal is to bring the conveniences you'd expect from a high-level language to the GPU. It's still got some rough edges, but if you're into shaders or creative coding you should check it out! More info in the thread 👇

Generative AI systems are Dunning-Kruger machines, competency simulators that give the illusion of being able to do something _precisely_ because their users are NOT able to do it (and thus their internal evaluation of the results fails).

To make this a bit less hot-takey: these systems actually do get better. So at this point in time it‘s things like video and music generators heavily feeding on Dunning-Kruger, while coding agents are really good by now.

I made a tiny tool for quickly sharing small datasets (< ~1000 rows) without uploading any data to a server. 🔗 ziptbl.com It compresses the data into the link itself, so there’s no account, hosting, or storage layer involved. Here's Florence Nightingale's famous 📊 data: ziptbl.com#d=eNpdlE-LGz...

higher ed will collapse as soon as the first "improve your grades by threatening your profs with a barrage of AI-generated emails" startup gains traction.

people often don't appreciate how dramatically the intensity of knowledge work, especially in STEM, has changed in the last 60 years even prior to the advent of AI. tough to imagine that a scientist would spend most of their time literally plotting data
