I saw Warren Beatty’s Reds when I was 13 years old. I turned out pretty much as you’d expect. Well, the whole Dorothy-Day-Catholic thing was a surprise. Also a board gamer.

Ramaswamy has produced an attack ad weaponizing the rape of his opponent, Amy Acton, when she was 12 years old. It features Acton’s mother, who abandoned Acton after she was raped by her step-father, fleeing the state with her husband. Here is the corporate money helping fund that ad.

Dorothy Day was also a Catholic voice.

Truly bizarre that this isn’t blazingly obvious.

Why is it never — NEVER — ”rich people have to suck it up”? For some reason it’s always those with the least who have to pay for the tax breaks of the rich.

One of the underrated parts of this election cycle is finding out what huge pieces of shit formerly safe elected officials are because they're finally vulnerable enough to get raked over the coals

@npr.org Good thing my NPR pledge is supporting great journalism.

Mike Masnick@masnick.com

Just did a quick look around and I don't see very many headlines about the President of the US making people pledge allegiance to him personally while telling everyone to commit election fraud and "cheat like hell" to support his party. Seems like it should be a story?

Sheep Detectives is a great movie. Not as great as l The Greatest Movie of All Time — that would be Babe (the talking pig one, not the baseball player one). And maybe it falls just short of the magnificence of Warren Beatty’s Reds (3 hours about journalists, communists, unions and sometimes sex).

As someone lead to the Church by the example of Dorothy Day — very happy. Though maybe say a prayer for the elected officials (including my boss) in Lucas County, Ohio who have to put up with my insufferable pain-in- the-ass-ness on a regular basis.

Fun fact — and reminder: For all their focus on “officer safety” and arguments about aggressive tactics being necessary, no ICE officer has ever been killed in the line of duty. It is more deadly in the US to be an elementary school student than an ICE officer.

Lots of overfitting from the commentariat on this one, as Ryan notes. The margin here is hardly 'stunning.' If anything, it's (relatively) strong evidence of openness to left-insurgent candidates, offset in this case by an idiosyncratic candidate who was of lower skill than, say, AOC or Mamdani.

Munitions depleted. SPR run down. Naval procurement set back. Promising officers purged. That bill is going to come due. Maybe 23m Taiwanese losing their freedom to the PRC, maybe hundreds of thousands of Americans losing their lives in a war we're not ready for. The bill will come due.

"Online Rent-a-Sage" Bret Devereaux@bretdevereaux.bsky.social

So my expectation is that the BBG(N) will never get built. Probably never even get a keel laid. It's a box to put R&D programs in. But that *also* means that a lot of desperately needed naval procurement priorities are basically on pause until 2028, which is a disaster.

Any discussion of women's roles in the church must begin with this fact: It was to a woman that the Risen Christ first appeared and a woman who was charged by him with announcing the Resurrection to the rest of his disciples. Thus, her justly exalted title: "Apostle to the Apostles."
