Interesting approach by Mike Rogers to make his loyalty to Elon Musk & the oligarchy an explicit part of his campaign earlier this year. “When you stand with my Senate campaign today, you are directly shielding Elon Musk,” Rogers wrote. www.metrotimes.com/news/mike-ro...

1. Not sure when a new, on-the-record rape allegation against a sitting president isn’t considered news — especially considering Trump was found liable by a jury in a similar case — but it was ignored by most mainstream media outlets

Much like a world with fake-ass corporate Pride merch, I would much rather live in a country where both sides at least pay lip service to everyone being an American over a mask off one like this because taking the mask off is a sign something has gone wrong.

It's... also not particularly novel for Americans who DO follow this sort of thing to be happy when autocrats in other countries are defeated? I'm just barely old enough to recall the ouster of Pinochet being broadly celebrated in international coverage as a victory for human rights & democracy.

It's wrong in a more basic way: if you're encountering "so many" Americans who have a strong interest in the Brazilian election, it's a reminder your personal social media feed is a highly unrepresentative niche of people with at least a 95th percentile level of interest in politics generally.

The powerful executives who cozied up to Trump didn't oops accidentally forget about pendulum swings. They either: 1) Like the fascism 2) Calculated it was here to stay, so going along was savvy 3) Saw no real downside, no consequences when the pendulum swung Crucial to show them 3 was a mistake

In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump have lost surprise elections thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

I will be a no on #3 as well. By my read it decreases opportunities for community input on land use (ULURP is not ideal + not strong enough, why voluntarily replace it w something even weaker?). And selling off public land to private developers should be discouraged, not sped up/streamlined!

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

Right wing authoritarians defeated in Hungary, Serbia, and Brazil. Then a Democrat wave and Netanyahu thrown out onto the street (then The Hague) to stop them here and in Israel. Might actually be able to slide into a new year with a bit of hope. That’ll help for the big fights in ’27.

Hungarian PM Péter Magyar: "I have just spoken by phone with the leaders of the Students List, who won the elections in Serbia, to congratulate them... I assured them of Hungary’s support. I was delighted to hear how much strength our victory in April had given them during this difficult struggle."

Watch closely how this unfolds. Trumpists and MAGA Republicans are advising and backing Bolsonaro. It’s a preview of the playbook they want to try here.

Ethics aside, this take could use some contact with reality. Biden's expanded CTC didn't motivate recipients to vote to maintain it. Trump offered $5000 checks and it hurt him in the polls. The empirical claim that welfare creates single issue voters just doesn't hold up.

The writers are just phoning in the most hackneyed shit this season.

Trump’s response to the Ramaswamy ad is worth dwelling on to remind us how his administration has actually treated survivors of abuse. Beyond Acton, beyond Epstein's victims, there are thousands of other kids and domestic violence victims whose lives have been made materially worse by Trump policy
