Can confirm that traffic still sucks, and traversing the extra lanes creates a frisson of terror when you are coming from the south and have to exit at Augusta/Milwaukee.

A Sun-Times/WBEZ investigation confirms one driver's lament that it was "the worst traffic I've ever had to deal with." Worse yet, epic delays persist — a year after a three-year construction project ended and Gov. JB Pritzker promised “faster commutes.”

I don't understand how this particular hoax has gained traction. Like, all of the boomers have seen Les Mis, right?

“We have seen artificial-intelligence-generated images showing scenes that never happened in France. “People have claimed that we were invaded by hordes of migrants and Islamists, which is completely false.”

Samuel Alito: We won't overturn Obergefell because it's engendered reliance interests. Jan Crawford: Well, many people had organized their lives around Roe v. Wade. Alito: No, they didn't. Women merely had an "abstract" interest in "ideas about the kind of society that they were going to live in."

"If I can see you, it's a problem" is as racist as it gets.

Here is tortured tautology Keeperman offers for why Desi college kids — wearing cowboy hats, throwing up the "Hook 'em Horns" hand sign, cheering the Longhorns — are not "assimilated": because he said so talkingpointsmemo.com/news/chris-r...

i've been watching a lot of youtube videos about japanese home organization tips and they're all like, "this derives from the ancient japanese spiritual belief that translates to 'throw your trash in the trash can'"

Happening now in the Chicago suburb of Franklin Park: Community members have gathered to commemorate the 1-year anniversary of the death of local resident Silverio Villegas González, whom an as-yet unidentified ICE agent shot and killed on this block at the start of "Operation Midway Blitz."

some people really do start with the principle that they don't want to vote for dems & work backwards from there

Tired: "Never forget." Wired: "Who can remember 9/11?"

"September 11th was 25 years ago" -- Ted Cruz defends Trump lying about his response to 9/11 but suggesting he might not remember because it was so long ago

and look, sometimes you genuinely didn’t like someone’s work and thought they were overhyped, and then they turn out to be a colossal asshole, and this feels very vindicating but former fans should be okay saying “this did mean something to me, this was good, and that’s what makes it hurt more”

Malört is a staple of our history and our heritage — a rite of passage if you want to prove you’re tough enough to be a Chicagoan. When I look back on my time as Governor, I will think of the taste of Malört and all of you who joined in the joy of it.

Love how this dude discovered the cheat codes of "what if I listened to constituents" and "what if I modeled good behavior" and "maybe I behave like a normal person should." These are apparently dark secrets that have been hidden from other politicians.

I'm listening, I'm learning. Safety first, NYC.

A lot of MAHA, woo, and sunscreen truthism comes from a profound underestimation of cancer deaths throughout history. First of all, causes of death for regular folks weren't widely tracked at all. 1/2

And for European royalty at least, sudden unexplained fatalities were often ascribed to poisoning. What might have been slower cancers were called "wasting disease." But also cancer was sometimes correctly diagnosed when there was a palpable tumor. 2/2

Happy International Cat Day!

⬇️Your perspective after saying 'pspspsps' to a clouded leopard (Neofelis nebulosa). They're amazing tree climbers, capable of going up & down trunks without slowing, hanging upside down to get that hard-to-reach primate. Let's talk about their amazing dentition ('teefs'). (📷: Nature on PBS)

1 in 280 people have Lynch syndrome; about 1 million in the US alone. It's a heritable condition where the DNA proofreading machinery fails, leading to VERY high rates of certain cancers (colorectal & endometrial). A new vaccine could intercept tumors in these patients, saving lives.

apnews.comTesting is underway on vaccines to intercept brewing colon cancer before it takes rootScientists are creating a new kind of vaccine that teaches the immune system to intercept a type of brewing colon cancer before it turns into a full-fledged tumor.
