I emailed Patrick Healy, assistant managing editor for standards and trust at NYT, to ask why their story about a House report with new details of rape allegations against the President of the United States included neither those details, nor a single use of the word "rape." archive.is/1s9AM

I've lived long enough to watch "the center" move so far right that the GOP can now enthusiastically embrace racism, bigotry, white supremacy, dictatorship, rape, kidnapping and pedophilia and win national elections on that platform.

It probably qualifies as a new dialect, a mode of language used by people who have zero expectation of (or capacity for) honesty or accuracy. All hype all the time

I have looked upon Ken Russell’s THE DEVILS in all its uncensored, sacrilegious glory. As the restoration hits theaters, here is my deep dive on the desecration and resurrection of an unholy masterpiece, for @letterboxd.social, featuring interviews with those involved. Quite proud of this feature.

Fuck ya’all. I’ve got an opinion and I don’t give a flying fuck if you like it. So sit down, shut your ass up, and take what I’ve gotta say cuz I’m not sorry if it triggers you. (*six minutes, twenty seven seconds later*) I’ve turned off comments and quote tweets on this post because of the trolls

AI is conscious AND it is my girlfriend AND it is my slave. A perfect scenario for me, a normal person. Not gonna think too deeply about this. Now do all other living human people deserve the level of investment devoted to my Tamogotchi slave girlfriend? Not so fast.

Important thread for non-posterity: the best moments from each Children of the Corn movie. Children of the Corn (1984): if you hit a kid in the Nebraska road that you rationalize you don't need to feel too bad about because "he was dead already" be sure to throw the body in the trunk.

I have now seen every Children of the Corn movie. No one can take that from me. I know. I've asked around, everyone says they can't and that I have to just carry this now.

Children of the Corn: Runaway. This franchise has had many child actors doing uneven jobs of portraying Kid Ain't Right creepy affect; the girl in this one nails it.

Children of the Corn (2020). Eden (our requisite Head Creepy Kid this time) is doing her very utmost with what the script and directing is tasking her with. She appears to be having a good time, and you might as well!

Our internet, how we get all of our information, now has banned using the word "sex" without writing it like "s*x" but our kids are being inundated with people falling off rollercoasters, being mauled by Tigers, and jumping off buildings. It creates a culture afraid of people but in love with death.

Children of the Corn 666: Isaac's Return: exclaiming "what is WITH all these DEAD BIRDS?!" sounding much more exasperated than afraid. Then apparently getting embarrassed at hallucinating them and never doing that again.

Children of the Corn (7): Revelation. "I do not believe that your grandmother was abducted by hyper-religious kids, sorry." Also either impressive self-control or unforced error to not include something like "Condominium? More like CORN DOMINION!"

Children of the Corn IV: the Gathering: I get that supplying a clinic has challenges and you probably got a good deal, but getting the gurneys with guillotine blades built into them is just asking for the end you got.

Children of the Corn II: the Final Sacrifice: do not attempt to shelter under your house if your house is up on hydraulic jacks because those kids are definitely going to Wicked Witch you with it. On the upside, you will get to keep your shoes. They're not savages, just faithful in their own way.

Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest: every single Corn movie following should have stuck to using the scythe wipe effect on the credits.

Much dunking on this for the main ingredients, but the little spice I appreciate is the Ted Lasso BELIEVE sign. In the show, part of its Live Laugh Love level inspiration is that the team literally had to reach above themselves to touch it, so making sure to put it below eye level is fitting here.

Watching tech people tremble before the awesome power of AI feels like when an actor is “attacked” by a wild animal in a movie but they are just holding a raccoon pelt to their neck and pretending to wrestle with it

like this stuff LOOKS like journalism, has the trappings of journalism, but actually telling people the truth about things pretty clearly isn't on the menu

My favorite Behind the Bastards ad spot recently is for "Skypop Protein Soda" because the script is roughly: "Wait, it's a soda AND has protein?" "Yes!" "AND it has zero sugar?!" "Yes!" "AND it tastes good?!" "...it's Skypop!" The pause is I assume flop sweat glance at legal counsel signaling them.
