the latest anthropic cry abt "cruelty" & "abuse" of ai is truly stupid. i beg journalists to stop parroting amodei we wrote why dehumanisation of ai is impossible & 6+ yrs later, everything in this paper holds Robot Rights? Let’s Talk about Human Welfare Instead dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1...

I am amazed that for a few years we had the ability to instantly access information through an almost perfect search engine and the makers of that search engine decided hundreds of billions wasn’t enough profit so they destroyed it

Google is now screwing with the 10 blue links in traditional search and rewriting headlines - including ours - to be the worst kind of slop. This sucks so bad www.theverge.com/tech/896490/...

I am becoming incredibly exhausted of this pattern: many people: "AI sucks!" Very Smart Person: ah but have you considered (distinct application of ML or statistical modeling that has no real relationship to what the tech industry is marketing as, and people broadly perceive as, "AI")

AI slop loving dipshits calling people "boomer", and then going on 10 post tirades is always a sure sign that someone's not suffering from being online too much.

See what being soft on crime gets you? When you fail to prosecute the criminal element in the US, it spreads. And becomes responsible for countless deaths by shutting down USAID.

Forgot to observe the 8th anniversary of one of the many things that should have ended the career of this menace to humanity.

These people are perverts and freaks, and we should all just say so.

An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play

If you post survey data, news articles, etc. without a link back to the source whenever possible, you are weakening the informational chain of custody and making it harder for other people to confirm that they're seeing accurate information. This holds even if you're mad at whatever it is.

Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

This is framed as a feel-good story, but it should scare the wits out of anybody on the road. Tesla's deceptive marketing is convincing seniors that the cars drive themselves. In reality, a human must always be ready to intervene. If someone lacks the ability to do that, they shouldn't be driving!

detroitnews.comForget rideshare. How seniors are using Teslas for transportationAs Waymo and Tesla robotaxi services promise more rides for more cities, seniors are taking matters into their own hands and self-driving Teslas.

This week in "They Actually Play For The Same Side", people that should know better carrying lots of water for the shittiest, most hateful, two-faced politicians. It's good when they put themselves, but not nearly enough people are grossed out by it.

The thing about social media age restrictions is that it treats today’s internet as an inevitability we all just have to deal with. The internet (and the WORLD) wasn’t like this until like four dudes were allowed to own & monetize as much tech real estate as they wanted. Fix THAT problem.

If the next #nothing flagship has UWB and a decent camera setup, I'll probably never buy another #pixel phone again. Everyone talked shit about Phone 3, and that thing is still better than my Pixel 10 in the ways I care about.

I learned something long ago after implementing a corporate internet monitoring tool. Humans forget they're being watched, and we behave our worst when watching. These tools are abused 100% of the time they're deployed, and only creeps want them.

I'm sick to death of people in the tech industry that don't want to know how anything works, don't want an understanding of the tools, environments, and technology they interact with. Fuck off with this "ask AI how to..." bullshit.

We wanted to understand why so many young New York City Democrats turned out in last night’s primaries. So we talked to three retired Republicans at a Capital Grill in White Plains

The most incredible thing to me is that the number of news outlets or journalists I want to follow has decreased dramatically in the past 10 years. Obviously I'm not alone on this.

this is your mission. our pedophile president needs you to show up in full combat gear on a hot summer day to the pool he filled with algae because he gave a paint job to one of his cigar puffing cronies. you are ordered to stop tourists from touching the green water. good luck soldier

Hi! I'm Bret Rhett Chet, here to tell you why you should buy and hodl SpaceX stonk. For a mere $135/share, you get pro forma tangible book value of $7.85/share, an immediate 94% dilution. New investors are putting up 48% of all capital ever invested in SpaceX in exchange for 4.2% of the shares. /1

Japan. My answer is Japan. A bit of protein, a bit of soup. You feel so good all day from it. Second answer is whoever came up with steak and eggs and bottomless coffee.

It almost seems like an economy that focuses exclusively on corporations and endlessly increasing consumption rather than the well-being of people leaves everyone feeling like they're on the edge. I'm one cancer diagnosis away from lifelong poverty.

The Atlantic@theatlantic.com

"People have stopped believing that the economy can be good, and have lost the willingness to admit that they are doing well. That pessimism might be harder to fix than an actual downturn," @annielowrey.bsky.social argues.

This is why I keep scoffing at the "Starlink seems like a healthy business" claims. Only if it has no costs, no failed deployments, no early failures of satellites, and they don't de-orbit early.

"And FWIW I don't like people telling me my mediocre takes are shitty. So it's you all that are the problem!" When will these waves realize we don't give a fuck? Shut the hell up and go back to the hell site if that's what you're so desperate for.

Corey Atad@coreyatad.com

and fwiw, the users are definitely the problem here, because in a way it's why they came here. to escape the constant, ugly drama of other sites and protect against that. but the platform itself is a problem. so much effort toward self-moderation has meant a culture of people talking to themselves.

The thing about this, as someone who’s very versed in LLMs and related technologies, is that the mainstream, mass-marketed versions of “AI” are *worthy* of contempt! Even if you like this tech, why would you advocate for such shitty versions of it? The Internet didn’t *start out* being shitty!

Marisa Kabas@marisakabas.bsky.social

one interesting thing so far about loudly hating AI is the way AI lovers are like "wow so you're just totally closed off to hearing another perspective??" as if their perspective hasn't been relentlessly pushed down our throats with no space to push back (particularly in professional settings)

The kids are alright.
