New from me in @liberalcurrents.com: how the evolution of the right from the Years of Lead through to the Turner Diaries through to discords of 14 year old giggling over gore pics got us to the point where there was almost a livestreamed execution:

Pete Hegseth "is a loser, following an ideology by and for losers. That means that he is very concerned that other losers prove their devotion to the religion of death by showing indifference to human suffering." @garethwatkins.bsky.social writes today www.liberalcurrents.com/public-execu...

I'm having some time to write today and honestly I love writing philosophy so much. It's not really very good but I don't care! I love having thoughts and tapping away until I get bored and have a snack! And then going back and tapping some more! 😊

A definite sign of ageing is that you cannot impress me with "over 20 years" anymore. Am I expected to think this sauce is ancient, because it's as old as Nelly Furtado's Maneater?

🚨 NEW: Poorer students have the most to gain from university, but they’re the least likely to go. Our brand-new best practice guide argues universities should redouble efforts to support disadvantaged students 🧵

Just to get my humblebrag for Semester 1 out of the way early: had set today aside to put finishing touches on a paper resubmission but I was basically done by 3pm. (Thanks in part to the two genuinely helpful reviewers).

I have separated the art from the artist and am now whipping the art to stiff peaks, after which I will gently fold it into the artist before baking at 350 til golden and puffed

Wonderful to see that Helen De Cruz has won the International Society for Science & Religion's General Readership Book Prize for her work, Wonderstruck! This illuminating book reveals how wonder and awe are catalysts that can help us reclaim what makes life worth living. Learn more: buff.ly/IYNfe0Q

I like the ones that appear normal at first until you realize a couple that there is something fundamentally wrong with them so I would say: normal centrist who also believes that the Roman Empire isn't real. Votes D because Rs online keep going on about ancient Rome & are therefore part of Them.

I know we all like to think we are special and not just living stereotypes, but today I took my middle class Marxist fiance out for his birthday and we had vegan tapas, then went to see Nish Kumar and finished the evening in a live jazz pub and honestly I could get used to being that kind of person

sliding this link in here in case anyone is like “oh man I really would love to read The Racial Contract but it’s just not accessible!” Also it’s 180-odd pages, and if you’ve not read it, it’ll upend your understanding of the world, and of philosophy, I promise abolitionjournal.org/wp-content/u...

One of the basic points in Mills' The Racial Contract (originally published in 1997!) was that, if nothing else, White Supremacy deserves to be taken seriously as one of the great motivating ideologies of modernity and it's bizarre that political philosophers are so disinclined to treat it as such.

I’ve just been named subject editor for the new “Animal ethics” area in the SEP, following my complaint that there are too few articles on this topic (serves me right for complaining). So stay tuned for new entries in the area, and hit me up with suggestions on topics that you think merit one!

Also, the British state just absolutely loves docking people's benefits. Just any excuse to dock benefits. Running late to an appointment? Benefits docked. Kids hanging out in the park harassing OAPs? Benefits docked. How is docking benefits going to make it easier to parent kids? Doesn't matter

By now, many philosophers and scientists have articulated incisive critiques of peer review - on ethical, epistemological, scientific etc grounds. But, what I think people have failed to consider is the following argument: Some of us are really stupid and also unorganized

I helpfully highlighted sections with substantial changes but did not note down anywhere what those changes were, nor how they relate to reviewer comments. Wtf I hate peer review now

Me sowing (rewriting a paper with an R&R without keeping track of my changes and additions because it messes with my flow): Haha fuck yeah!!! Yes!! Me reaping (trying to write the response to reviewers): Well, this fucking sucks. What the fuck

My thought on "woke 1" is that to the extent it became about white guilt rather than about addressing the legitimate grievances of black and brown people it failed. All the stuff people mention...the grifters, the HR departments covering their asses, the censorious online shit stems from it.
