I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

Infrastructure week maybe?

Laura Bassett@lebassett.bsky.social

He keeps hinting in his speeches that there are going to be some big surprises next week and a couple people in his administration are going to be remembered in history books. It seems like no one really knows what to do with that information so it’s just passing casually

the reason why this is shocking to some people and isn't shocking to most people who know what they're talking about is that there's a cohort of people that understand that conservativism is a form of hierarchism that requires categorization and control,

I live in a rural town and, like, I don't know how to tell you this, but the girls play on the boys team and vice versa all the time because otherwise we don't have enough players for a game and it's literally always fine so stop being weirdos about kids sports and just let trans kids play.

Every time I have to use Teams (which, thankfully, is rarely), I'm like "what the fuck is going on here?" and "where the fuck do I find things?" Worthless product.

Nothing beats a "Florida man" story.

NBC News@nbcnews.com

A Florida man was found dead in his home during a welfare check in July 2022. Weeks later, one of the officers who discovered his body moved into the home and spent years impersonating him, according to investigators.

This part of constitutional law is so idiotic. Can't wait for saner heads to eventually prevail and overrule this bullshit.

And once again, as always, anytime Thomas and Alito dissent, it's a good day for America.

If Zohran Mamdani or Abdul El-Sayed had used the word “Shylock” as an insult, the ADL would be attacking them by name relentlessly. But Donald Trump used it, so we get a generic condemnation of the word without any specific reference to who actually used it, and with no assumption of intent.

Oh please please please. This will be such sweet fun.

NEW: Last year, the White House told Texas to redraw its congressional map to create five new GOP seats. Now the plan may be backfiring. If voting patterns in South Texas this year look more like the 2018 or 2020 elections, these Trump+10 districts begin looking deep blue. 🎁 link: wapo.st/483AFxs

New report shows what has been true for a long time -- pregnancy criminalization is a story of punitive approaches to substance abuse disorder. Less so, but significantly so, a story of punishing people for pregnancy loss. What is a miniscule part of the story is abortion. That's super low risk.

Pregnancy Justice@pregnancyjust.bsky.social

As has been the case for decades, nearly all the cases alleged that the pregnant person used a substance during pregnancy. We know this approach does not work. Criminalization only worsens health outcomes and makes people scared to seek care.

Because four of the Justices have book contracts with a party's corporate parent, the Supreme Court LACKS A QUORUM to hear BMG v. Vetter, and one of the worst copyright decisions in recent memory is affirmed by default. It's just one bad look after another. www.supremecourt.gov/docket/docke...

At some point, schools are just going to have to stare SCOTUS in the eyes and say "you know what? no." And don't tell me this is lawless. The current SCOTUS has left the rule of law in the dust, contorting the 14A into a parody of what it means. Defying them IS standing up for the rule of law.

All the while, opponents of race-conscious admissions policies broadly understood race-neutral admissions policies like UT's Top 10% plan as perfectly constitutional alternatives to achieve diversity in education... That began to change when Kavanaugh replaced Kennedy and then Barrett replaced RBG.

So the only question is whether the Chief writes the majority opinion or Alito does. We know the outcome.

I already watched one documentary about Elizabeth Holmes. Why would I waste another three hours of my life watching yet another about this fraudster?

The word "permanently" needs to be removed from coverage of the law. Court decisions, statutes, even constitutional provisions -- nothing is permanent in law. We need to all recognize that.

It makes people either a) too complacent politically if something happens they agree with or b) too demoralized to continue to fight if something happens they disagree with. Law can always be changed.
