My wife is flying to another country on Monday and she booked the flight in July. Apparently they cancelled the flight IN July and rebooked her on another flight without contacting her and that flight left yesterday. Now we’re in customer service hell trying to figure it out. Another broken system.

I think the coolest thing about this website is that all the posts have been done. No new posts! Just fully regurgitated ideas! We’re trapped in an endless loop of horror!

Today in everything is bad now: A photo collage app I’ve had for nearly a decade now requires a subscription. TO PUT 4 PHOTOS IN A GRID. Like, what are we doing? Why are there ads in this? Who hurt you?

Yes this 100% has made me stop donating to candidates. It simply will not stop.

Molly Knight@mollyknight.bsky.social

Do they even understand how much they’re pissing people off by doing this. Whatever research that convinces them that spamming everyone is all upside is bullshit. It is like they’d rather have all my contact info to sell to other campaigns forever than receive my donation. It sucks.

More importantly, those sales teams have shrunk down significantly while lists grow so there’s actually no time for these teams to read and recommend like they could even 5 years ago. Sales teams in publishing have to sell hundreds of titles every year with very little time or information.

Maris Kreizman@maris.bsky.social

I spoke about corporate consolidation and how sales teams across imprints are told which books to prioritize. And also book coverage in general interest outlets -- where once these publications were tastemakers, now they want to talk about a book only once everyone's already talking about it.

At long last, we have created a way for you to take away Nikki's free will, from the classic horror movie "don't take away Nikki's free will"

I truly believe deep in my heart that posting any type of spoiler at all about You Can See Everything is absolute loser behavior. Exclusively done to ruin something you know people should see totally blind.

YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING isn’t just the best movie of the year (it is), it may be one of the best pieces of filmmaking of all time. See this movie with a packed audience and spoiler-free is at all possible. What a gift.

An armed community member. Jesus. The public is getting REAL comfortable wandering into active shooting situations and firing off regularly.

The New York Times@nytimes.com

Three children and a teacher were killed on Thursday in a shooting at an elementary school in Oregon, and the shooter was also dead, officials said. Authorities identified the gunman as a 16-year-old Bend resident and said he was shot by an armed community member. Follow live updates.

We also gotta get out of the panopticon mindset and start reading and dancing to music again and stop video-ing each other doing anything slightly weird and taking pictures of strangers on the subway like volunteer cops. Documenting an uninteresting life nonstop instead of living interesting life.

Good and terrifying article. I was let go from one of the big five this year. I started on a team of ten people and then years later it was 4. And it was easily double, if not triple the workload from when I started.

I mean, I would go with the premise of the original show/the singular episode they just did that was a massive success but I guess I’m just built different

DiscussingFilm@discussingfilm.net

There are currently no active conversations for a full ‘MUPPET SHOW’ series revival. Disney, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures have had difficulties with deciding on a premise for the series that they can all agree on. (Source: Deadline)

Dolly Parton spent so much of her time and money helping others. Teaching kids to read, funding cancer research, vaccines, disaster relief, LGBTQ+ charities and causes. A truly singular person. The world is truly a little less bright without her.

This is genuinely so embarrassing. If I learned this about someone I knew, I'd have no choice but to excise them from my life for being the most pathetic person I've ever met.
