PP has done an electoral deal with Vox in advance of the Spanish general election. It’s the first time in Europe a supposedly traditional party of the right has pacted with the far-right in this way. PP/Vox is essentially one party now - and Vox is in the driving seat.

Really worth noting that even in Red Wall constituencies which backed Leave, most *Labour* voters back rejoining the EU. Over 90% of Labour considerers back rejoin - opposition to EU membership is mainly coming from non-Labour voters in these seats. Was on Times Radio yesterday making this point.

Same for journalists. A decade of their career waxing lyrical about a giant waste of time. That said, I’m coming round to the view that the only way to solve Brexit was to go through it.

Amazing how many Labour MPs do not understand this quite basic point.

I had to turn off - I find Nick Robinson’s questioning style infuriating and it’s worse when he doesn’t challenge Farages assertion of facts or his cherry picking of data

Pro-Europeans really need to get their act together if they're going to sieze the opportunity which is being presented here. Press and broadcasters reverting right back to their previous position from 2016, with zero update.

It's easy to mock Andy Burnham choosing to fix small annoyances when Britain has so many huge issues. I get the sentiment. At the same time, as he fixes more and more and more small annoyances, it does start to boost positive feeling.

“I'm not sure we've processed the trauma of the pandemic as a society; the ripple effect of the terror and paranoia that we all felt the first few months; how frightened we were for our loved ones. I don't think we have reckoned with it at all. People just don't want to talk about it - or hear it.”

This is just the maddest argument. These people would trap us in poverty to keep a decade old commitment, which no one ever actually made, to an electorate which no longer exists.

Superb from @pimlicat.bsky.social Too many people treat the rejoin debate as if we are still in 2016 (or the 1990s for that matter). Its 2026 and literally every important question related to the UK - be it economic, defence, climate change, education or crime - the answer is: rejoin the EU.

I mean, in the context of the last 20 years in UK politics - not just 10 - this is a huge deal.

🤩 This is a significant moment. Burnham says openly that Brexit has weakened 🇬🇧 economy, failed to deliver promised control over immigration and produced a harder Brexit than many people were led to expect in 2016. On rejoin EU: “I would like to see that happen in my lifetime.” And next 👇 🧵

Reform plan to bring back imperial measurements to help boost US trade, not realising that US imperial measurements are different from UK ones. So dense a black hole is empty space by comparison.

Got to say I disagree with this. You can get ahead of the public while not making it clear you are doing so. For me, Burnham is currently doing this very skilfully. He did not have to even mention FoM, but he did.

I've already had a (friendly) disagreement on FB today with someone being all like "Ah, but the AfD and Le Pen next year.." I don't see the point of trying to pull the rug out from under our rare hopeful moments. It's energy-sapping. People should take this as a sign that none of this is inevitable.

It all boils down to whether EU member states want the UK back. If they all do, the Euro will not be an obstacle. If one or more don’t, it will be an insurmountable one. What are absolutely non-negotiable ever are the Four Freedoms.
