What’s that you say? Liz has a new book out which even the Telegraph is saying is even more unhinged than the last one? Wonderful, I’ll post this then.

Lol. "The Spain manager, Luis de la Fuente, won coach of the year. “I hope in the future I will become in English better,” were his first words at the lectern, throwing his hat in the ring for a disastrous pension-padding six months at Manchester United two years from now."

As in Hungary, the authoritarian regime in Serbia is being dismantled . “For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly, and failed to ask the necessary questions. For that, we owe our viewers an apology,” news anchor Goran Eror said.

Because we spend so much time talking about what a cunt Donald Trump is, we probably don't spend enough time talking about how fucking thick he is.

Trump says if Republicans lose the election it is voters’ fault

Obviously this is outrageous in terms of partiality. But it's also yet another argument against rolling news. Rolling news has *so much* time to fill. Things like this must be a godsend for producers but it's really unhealthy for our discourse. If the BBC has to make cuts, it should bin News 24.

Alex Andreou@sturdyalex.bsky.social

BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet. WHY

Fascinated by Restore's taste for hilariously shoddy AI. I love how this bloke's family - including his small children - have gathered in the doorway of their house to watch dad slaughter a possible intruder in cold blood. A delightful childhood memory in the making.

Kathy O'Donnell@kathyodonnell.bsky.social

Under Restore, it will be your RIGHT to shoot in the face any old man in a flat cap found using the public footpath next to your farmhouse. Especially if he appears to be carrying a snake.

He looks like a fading crime boss who gets murdered at the end of episode one of an underwhelming ITV Sunday night thriller.

Say what you like about his talents as a director of football, but Jason Wilcox is world-class at looking shifty in photos

This is great and overdue. Now what Oxford Street needs is fewer weird American candy and vape shops. This will make it nicer to visit - next step is actually giving people a reason to go there.

This is a beautiful, beautiful thing

Bolsonaro has refused to concede defeat because of course he has. Always the same with these fashy dickheads. They accuse their opponents of cheating because their cheating didn't work this time. Every accusation is a confession. Always.

Lula: "We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. A crime in the digital world must be treated the same as a crime in the real world. We cannot have monstrous companies earning millions... not paying taxes... wanting to steer elections."

Dare we dream that right wing populism is dying? Probably not but it's a fucking good night.

Taniel@taniel.bsky.social

With 83% of the vote counted nationwide, Lula has stretched his lead to 2.8 million votes. That's a lead of 51.4% to 48.6%. That puts him on track for a victory that could be larger than his 1.8% win four years ago, which would be an immense comeback. He's even up in Minas Gervais now, by 0.6%.

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

A friend of mine is a fireman and I normally ask him if he's rescued any cats from trees lately. Last one was 6 months ago, they generally send the owner in to make tea then turn one of the smaller hoses on the cat until it climbs down. Cats don't actually get stuck in trees

Traditional moaning aside: LOADS OF THINGS. We're now less violent, less racist, less sexist and less homophobic. Plus, we smell better and we eat miles better food. We're in a blip now and who knows how long it will last? But I feel like underlying trends (over decades, not years) are leaning up.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

If you're in Portsmouth, you know where to go.

Ireland against Fascism@irlagainstfascism.bsky.social

Danny Tommo's 'patriot platform' vigilantes were refused service in The George Inn, Portsmouth. They demanded to know why, despite the fact they do not have to be given a reason. Always make bigots feel unwelcome. Show the pub some love for doing the right thing. Things you love to see ✊❤️

Right at the end, someone in the crowd says 'That's all we needed, right there. We needed THAT'. I always think how amazing that must have been for those people.

We do not talk about this enough. A whole generation of people - who came of age in the 80s and early 90s - got a massive social and financial leg-up. And they responded to that by pulling up the drawbridge.

The generation that got to buy cheap houses thanks to a postwar construction boom, then blocked new housing construction to juice their asset values is now whining that they have to pay taxes on their unearned wealth. Just breathtaking selfishness.

I actually do think J is a modern-era genius, like Joni Mitchell or Neil Young or Paul McCartney. It's just that his diffidence and awkwardness is genuine not posed so he's incredibly difficult to build a narrative around. He just *is*.

Ahead of quite a busy working-from-home week, I've woken up to find next door have got builders in. They're clattering around, shouting, banging stuff, listening to the radio... Good times.

This Reform Undercover thing is wild. Whether or not these recordings were obtained ethically, they're saying what they're saying. They are monstrous, racist, misogynistic, predatory cunts and we can't let them anywhere near power.

That is spot on. The other thing: art is trying to say 'no one has done this/said this in exactly the same way before' whereas AI is saying 'art is nothing more than the sum of all its previous component parts'. AI denies the empathy and originality of art.

M. Night Shyamalan's YouTube channel (which is something he has now) came out of nowhere with this great line.

Yeah man, last time I was in a situation like that, I wasn't driving a Roadster and I just plunged into the river. It was shit.

shauna@goldengateblond.bsky.social

is one of those situations “DAMMIT i’m in a michael bay movie again”

I was talking to my dad about this weird, almost subliminal stolen valour. He's 87. He can *just about* remember VE Day.

Dan Kaszeta FRHistS@dankaszeta.bsky.social

No. British people in their 70s and 80s did not fight in the Second World War. If you’re 89 you were born in 1937. You might just barely remember the blitz.

As a symbol of our deeply stupid, deeply toxic era - in politics and in media - this works pretty well. Surely the people this is aimed at can see the contempt with which they are being treated?
