We must unlearn the deception that public funds "come from" taxes. The truth is that taxes are public collections of private funds created by private banks using credit that they were granted BY THE PUBLIC. To demand full funding of all basic needs, organized majorities must understand this fact.

"The trouble is that most modern political economy—Marxism included—promptly betrays its own constructionism, reducing money’s social functionality right back to a private, alienable, and ultimately exogenous thingliness."

We’re excited to introduce our new Executive Director, Zachary Hendrickson! 💫 Zach comes from City Parks Foundation where he put millions of dollars into the hands of grassroots orgs through the NYC Green Fund. Together we’re going to deliver a safer, more affordable city for everyone.

Bolsonaro, Vucic and Orban out, Flamingo and Cockroach Revolutions, French uprising and Iberian housing movements, Nepal and Bangladesh popular insurrection, Iranian and Serbian movements, these too are heralds of the current moment. We are once again in a time of movement and revolution

None of us should forget this. Meta should be subjected to corporate death penalty and permanently broken up into small pieces.

The full zine shows how library spending compares at several locations across the USA. For NYC, do you know how our funding stacks up? See a few snapshots from this amazing resource below:

I think one of the best aspects of this story is just how *average* the cop is. This is pretty much what most cops are like. They believe they are doing a good job.

I just want to name that people overcame this. Even against a stacked deck, the good fight is worth it. Win or lose, it's worth it. And sometimes the good guys win.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

Today's the day: the NYC Council will vote on the Community to Purchase Act—and this time, it'll have a mayor who'll sign it. CLTs and other nonprofits will get the first chance to buy over 3,000 buildings, thereby making them permanently affordable. #ShareGoodNewsToo citylimits.org/opinion-pass...

I really appreciate all the expansive thinking and ideas for how to move forward at the local level. Let’s collectively “repudiate the fatal premise that revenue is the primordial origin of human capacity.”!

The dept. claimed the vehicle helped “locate foster children who have been victims of sex trafficking… Lawmakers questioned why nearly $1 million was spent on mobile surveillance while foster children face shortages in trauma therapy, caseworker support and basic transportation for family visits.”

The person who made this great development happen was CHARLES BARRON, 1 of just 3 Council members in the past decade who understood the power each Council member had to demand affordable housing from developers. Barron's approach was the opposite of that taken by Z and most Council members today.

This week, we opened 385 new affordable homes in Brooklyn. We’ll soon grow the Innovative Urban Village to 2,000 affordable homes, child care, jobs, a grocery store and a performing arts center. That’s what it looks like to build a city without pricing out the working class.

NYPD keeps doing what it's doing because there's never been an organized voting majority that can instill more fear in City Hall than the police. Constructing such a majority is the governing-power Left's responsibility; until our orgs undertake it, the city will never be safe—let alone affordable.

Between 2019 and 2023, police misconduct cost New Yorkers $427 million. @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social must break with the policing tactics tolerated by past administrations and show it's possible to enforce laws without singling out Black and Hispanic men. amsterdamnews.com/news/2026/10...

I'd love to see progress towards either or both of these visions, but for our public libraries in NYC. We should have regular library users (rather than exclusively millionaires) on our public library boards of trustees. But I also believe in a bigger vision, which we could start tomorrow...

Grateful for Johanna Fernández and her radical history of the Young Lords. Thinking about the East Harlem Health Council's 10 Point Health Program and specifically the "lay health advisory boards" and community-worker control. She described a couple different visions for these boards from the time:

The NYC Department of Correction’s record-high overtime costs cannot become the norm. In FY26, overtime hit $358.9M, an increase of 140% since FY20. Our office has launched a new feature on the DOC Dashboard to track overtime spending & bring greater transparency to DOC’s escalating overtime costs.
