Vampires are inherently Catholic. Werewolves are inherently Protestant. Zombies are inherently Atheist. Thank you for coming to my presentation.

The kids are really, really alright. They have language for themselves we never had growing up, plus way better emotional awareness. Plus they can all spot AI a mile away and they have zero patience for it.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

This is the most remarkable story Ray Bradbury ever shared with me. He told it to me late one night, sitting in his den of antiquities and mementos. Take five minutes to read this. It’s pure magic. #Writing #Living #Creativity #RayBradbury #BookSky

And long before Left Behind there was A Thief in the Night and The Late Great Planet Earth and “I Wish We’d All Been Ready”. The idea that the world is doomed is baked into the moment the Christian Right became a US political force. It means anyone trying to improve things is suspect by definition.

I keep telling people about how the Christian "Left Behind" books, literal fantasies about the apocalypse, were super, super popular in the late 90s/ early 2000s. I used to read them. Major disasters, while terrible, were also framed by evangelical churches as titillating...sexy almost.

That was also the moment private Christian schools were forced to desegregate. The ‘90s Left Behind era was like the next gen of all of that, chewed up and made digestible for the mainstream.

Imagine if you spent a quarter of the time yelling at the politicians who are allowing themselves to be radicalized into transphobia as you do yelling at trans people online. with talarico, specifically, he KNOWS what the pro-trans stance is because HE HELD IT BEFORE THE PRIMARY. fucking hell

This is a Lan Wangji subtweet.

An autistic person has demonstrated their enjoyment of a joke by very slightly sorta kinda moving one corner of their mouth, eyewitnesses have reported. Read this and other exclusive articles on Patreon: www.patreon.com/TheDailyTism...

Just finished this one and WHEW. I mean tbh I wanted to scream at the very premise of signing up for solitude and discovering precisely one (1) other person is there, so I should have known this would keep crawling right under my skin. Is “autistic horror” a genre?

After a violent incident at work, Tamsin makes a fresh start in a cottage far from her old life. But the solitary cottage is actually a semi-detached, with only a thin wall between her & a total stranger. Preorder: geni.us/homesick Goodreads: tinyurl.com/3mdv69dp Storygraph: tinyurl.com/6j5n5xyx

Little known to many, on the 10th June, the government released the interim report on ADHD and neurodiversity services in the UK. It came out to very little fanfare. Why? Because it doesn't match the government & the press narrative on "an epidemic of neurodiversity diagnoses".

If you are unaware of just how serious recent changes to guidance for schools re trans kids is, read this thread. It is horrific. Stop worrying about what Reform would do if elected and start seeing clearly what this Labour government is already doing. 😡😢

Just had meeting with kiddo's school. She has been fully supported, treated with full equality & dignity for years. All of that changes from September. Full segregation & humiliation across the board. The school staff cried in the meeting. This will absolutely lead to children's deaths 1/2

Eight protests from the BAD Coalition (Bodily Autonomy and Dignity Coalition) have cropped up for Thursday 9th July at 18:00. Do try to attend if you can, although many of these protests are in London. There are a few scattered across England though. Details here: whatthetrans.com/compilation-...

Thomas Paine is my favorite founding father. He was famously abolitionist and one of the earliest voices to point out the hypocrisy of fighting for independence while keeping slaves. He also firmly believed that keeping any friendship which required compromising your morals made you a bad person.

The Rude Pundit@rudepundit.bsky.social

The founder we should talk more about is Thomas Paine, who will fuck your shit up every time. Here he is in The Rights of Man just ripping into any ideas of "originalism" and that kind of garbage.

In both cases I think it speaks to a certain comfort most people from the majority stakeholder political constituency have where politics is a service model and so long as their service isn't really disrupted they think everything is fine.

Edinburgh council just agreed to condemn the proposed EHRC Guidance as discriminatory against trans people, unworkable and potentially incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights.

For many LGBT folk like me, and especially trans folk, Keir Starmer will be remembered in the same way as Margaret Thatcher: with deep contempt for having overseen a deeply hostile, queerphobic government, which rolled back human rights and set society back by at least a decade. Good riddance.

I am completely obsessed with this chonky lil bumblebee and the people caring so well for her.

I get the impression that some people aren't clear what this means. This is the UK state deciding to intervene directly in the healthcare of individual children, depriving them of medicine that their doctors have prescribed for their personal health & wellbeing, in defiance of global best practice.

Cal Horton (they/them)@fiercemum.bsky.social

Update: Young people & families today received shocking & transphobic letters from NHS. These letters tell people that endocrine care (blockers / HRT) is being fully withdrawn in 7 weeks time (July 31st). Forced medical detransition. This country is a danger to trans children & young people.

Finished The Girl With a Thousand Faces by @sunyidean.com and now I don’t know what to do with myself. My whole brain is Kowloon Walled City and water ghosts and Hong Kong resistance fighters now and I’m not ready to let it go.

This is a concrete action you can ask of your MP.

32 Members of Parliament have signed a motion to reject the EHRC Code of Practice. It's a code that many feminists are describing as one that targets trans people and is failing women. Please email your MP to support this motion: equalrecognition.eaction.org.uk/rejectthecode

THIS. Do I worry about the effects of social media on my 11-year-old? Obviously yes. Do I think she should be banned from it any more than young men falling into the manosphere on Reddit, middle-aged ladies being dragged into transphobia on Mumsnet, or pensioners radicalised by Facebook? 100% no.
