This website needs time-dependent muting so people can enjoy my silly and/or sincere weekend posts while not getting hit with my weekday “FUCK AI AND THE BROKE-DICK SEX CRIMINAL RACISTS IT RODE IN ON!!!” posts.

8:30 every morning: I’m gonna be PRODUCTIVE after work! I’m gonna do SO MANY THINGS! I’m making a LIST! 4pm every workday: *elbow-crawling across the wreckage of my brain, completely adrenaline-fried, desperate to spend my whole evening in drooling, sedentary mindlessness*

The Cranium Command show at EPCOT featured Bobcat Goldthwait as the Adrenal Gland. When sthg set him off, he’d SCREAM + sparks would fly + all the lights would flash. I think about those moments a lot these days. A perfect representation of the inside of my anxiety-addled brain, almost all the time.

how are so many otherwise smart people so unwilling to accept that 5 Nov 24 created a future on certain things that was unchangeably locked in for 4 years

28 Oct: new polls saying “yes the GOP will win in [state] but the margins are EMBARRASSING”. Angry sigh. But! My disappointment tells me my hopes were too high, so I’ll recalibrate. Back to anticipating a lifetime of fascist hell on a burning planet/being pleasantly surprised if I’m wrong.

I’m not late! It’s still National Black Cat Day in all the other U.S. time zones! This is my second-ever void kitty and she is wonderful. RECOMMEND!

It's not enough to have a nice drink set aside for when something happens. Who will you call first? Do you have a party plan? Where will you party? If there is no party, will you BECOME the party? BE PREPARED.

Tried to buy my friend some heirloom seeds for her garden. Wasn’t 100% sure about the website (and I’ve heard about scammy seed sellers using AI-generated images for their “veggies”). Tried to check its rep on reddit and stumbled on a bunch of antivaxxer Clive Bundy enthusiasts. Fuckin’ yikes.

Listening to a report about Google chopping down a quarter of a million trees in Finland to build a data centre while washing out yoghurt pots for the recycling

Everybody brace for another round of TikTok tradwives loudly announcing that voting is annoying and women shouldn’t “have” to do it and the Man Of The House should just vote on behalf of the whole household blah blah blah

Jo Wolff@jowolff.bsky.social

Incredible gender difference in voting intention in Brazil.

I feel like if there were a bunch of rumors that I mangled my own genitals in the disastrous pursuit of a porn-y ideal, I’d try NOT to do online burns that remind everybody about that.

ok

While working today, I saw The Families Who Are Always In My Goddamn Yard holding their kids up to dig around in the foliage of my pin oak. They were really gettin’ deep in there! I thought they were sticking pins in it? Or taking leaves? So I checked just now: bird’s nest 😕

View full thread

But even if that’s the case, WHHYY are you lifting all the children up to root around in it? Why is the lesson ALWAYS “if you see any sign of wildlife, molest it immediately and thoroughly!”? When I was a kid, it was “Oooh wow look at the bird’s nest! We don’t want to bother it, though - just look.”

I want so desperately NOT to be the “Get off my lawn” crone, but when the activities are: leave half a bike tire and/or light fireworks on my driveway, leave toys all over my yard, and HARASS WILDLIFE, then you’re gonna start hearing “GET OFF MY LAWN”!

I don’t know enough to tell what kind of bird it belonged to. It appears to be empty, and is sitting askance on the branch. My best hope is that it will have been abandoned long before today, so they didn’t actually disrupt anyone’s home and/or babies(?)

YUP. It’s evil and actively harmful. The extent to which it does or does not “work” is beside the point.

Diane Airbus@cheatlines.co

The "you can't say AI doesn't work" argument doesn't hit for me. A bunch of stuff in history "worked" with perverse externalities. You CAN recover gold from circuit boards by having children barbecue them over open fires in the street but it's not worth discussing as part of the future of recycling

Just to counteract some of my copious whining: last week I remember my library card lets me access w/a 24-hr code I can renew as often as I want, which means I can play all their li’l games without giving them a dime. Thanks, The Library!

It’s sadly not surprising that the FDA and USDA took no action. But if I routinely shopped at Trader Joe’s, I’d be FURIOUS with them about this.

Deborah Blum@deborahb.bsky.social

There's an interesting and dismaying timeline here, in which the company, the FDA and USDA identified the problem weeks ago but no public recall of the tainted chicken wraps was ordered by the government. The information they've shared appears to be due to excellent reporting by @usatoday.com.

My doctor seems truly mystified as to why I don’t wanna take a GLP-1. Well, it’s this right here! I know everyone’s experience is different, there are different brands/doses/blah blah blah, but this is my concern. I got a li’l taste of anhedonia from an SSRI, and I never want to feel that way again.

I hate on GLP-1s more than I should. I know they help a lot of ppl and have more uses than just “make skinny”. But I resent how they’re viewed/talked about. Like, if you’re not a size 0, ppl think you should be taking them. Period. And they’re utterly flummoxed if you say “I don’t want to”.

I’ve been brainstorming a friend’s bday gift for a week. I’m a bit stuck, but I wouldn’t call it a “chore” - I’m choosing to do it bc I love my friend. And it IS fun, setting aside time just to think about her/what she likes! But it’s hard to find time bc of other ACTUAL chores. That AI cannot do.

AND ANOTHER THING! They keep saying AI will do all these piddly menial tasks so we’re freed up for more creative, deep thought. But Ms. Mayer hadn’t even been able to think through the consequences of outsourcing her relationships, so I guess this shit doesn’t work 🤷‍♀️

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

I grew up in the suburbs, lived in cities as an adult, and now live in a semi-rural area. Each of these places is full of the biggest assholes and sweetest dears you could ever hope to meet. Where you live has jack shit to do with whether you’re a good person.

This website is like “I’ll never understand how rural Americans can hate the cities SO much. We’re just people, same as they are! 🥺” Then the next post is “Anyway fuck suburbanites I hope they all die of genital gangrene”

thinking fondly again of the college girl at the donut place, who made a little muslim boy bounce giddily out the door after she told him his donut was free, and who waved me away and said "you're good" when it was my turn to pay and then, when asked if there was a deal that day said "i hate my job"

Where do they keep finding these awful edgelord pieces of shit? How have so many men grown up with no understanding of love, joy, or empathy? A bottomless hunger for cruelty and power where a human soul should be.

It’s hard to say what the BIGGEST problem is, but I think it’s the fact that we’re not allowed to call stupid beliefs/positions/people “stupid”. Some things really are so far beneath us that we should be able to dismiss them out of hand.
