BREAKING: The House of Representatives just passed the SAVE Act, a bill that would make it much harder for millions of people to register to vote. We're calling on the Senate to reject this legislation.

#ResistanceRoots Today in history, 1939: Marian Anderson performs for 75,000 people at the Lincoln Memorial. The DAR had refused to allow the renowned contralto to sing in Constitution Hall, so FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt helped arrange the concert on federal property. /1

Rep. Steven Horsford to Greer: "So the trade representative hasn't spoken to the POTUS about a global reordering of trade, but yet he announced it on a tweet? WTF! Who is in charge? It looks like your boss just pulled the rug out from under you. There is no strategy ... is this market manipulation?"

Spoiler: It is absolutely market manipulation

Can we stop calling these atrocities "deportations." These people sold to El Salvadorian prisons were not deported. Deportation is a process that did not take place. They were rounded up and removed with no process. They were kidnapped, not deported.

Hostile reminder that Congress has the ability to modify or take back the powers they granted to the executive branch thru legislation. Basically Congress can wake tf up at any point and stop Trump’s tariffs. 👀 It’s a fundamental principle of the constitution, which y’all love so much right?

People across the country and around the world turned out on Saturday for what organizers say has been the single biggest day of protests against President Trump and his second-term actions. In the U.S., more than a thousand rallies were planned in small towns and major cities from coast to coast.

I asked the one high ranking policeman I saw on 5th Ave why there were so few police. He said “We did not expect anything like this. Don’t tell anyone but I’ve only got 44 officers out here — and it’s a great crowd, great event, no incidents.”

Mor Naaman@informor.bsky.social

I have never seen anything like this in NYC. 5th Ave covered from 42nd St well to the 20s. Nobody prepared for this volume. Volunteers are holding the traffic on all the side streets. No police in sight. #handsoff

You know what's on my mind today? Pictures and videos of murdered children, calls for empathy and humane-ness don't work and do not protect other kids - ones who are still alive. Those who make the decisions don't watch them. They do not react and they use other motives for action.⤵️

Kilmer Abrego Garcia was “accidentally deported” to El Salvador, and is being locked behind bars in a hell-hole prison. This is the abhorrent result of the Trump regime’s refusal to ensure due process. In America, Garcia was violently stripped of his fundamental rights. By order…

Here's the story behind how our tip truck got rolling 🚚 Via @niemanlab.org:

niemanlab.orgProPublica wanted to find more sources in the federal government. So it brought a truck.“It's funny how you can know nothing about something like LED billboard trucks and then suddenly become an expert in them."

We're hearing Julia Pollak of ZipRecruiter will be DOL's next chief economist so we did a little digging. Typically, whoever is in this role coordinates with the White House Council of Economic Advisors on messaging around the economy. Here are some interesting things we found.

I was a storm chaser before mobile Internet (and thus radar) was a thing, rarely had cell service. At the time, few of us were dumb enough to chase high precip supercells in the Midwest/Northern plains at night. Images like this bring back memories.

I feel confident in predicting history will judge this decade or so as the absolutely stupidest time in American history. Honestly our kids and grandkids will read about this time and be shocked that adults existed.

Does anybody else think that workers here in the US without papers deserve to come out of the shadows? We have allowed some level of bs for too long. I hate what ICE and the scary fascists are doing, but frankly, we need to find a way to allow people to come here and work in low paying jobs legally

The Real Level Set! Do us all a favor, America. Next time, don’t stay home. Get your ass to the polls and make sure your family and friends do too. That’s what Black folks do.

This isn’t just about a shut down. It’s about a tax break for the wealthy and a ballooning of our debt while DOGE pussyfoots some performance bs while ruining our government. It’s not hard to comprehend. Please get headline right.

Mike Johnson will be a small sentence in high school American history books. “Some in the federal government supported curtailing free speech to create the image of a government in control of messaging.” I can see the AP examine question now.

Justin Baragona@justinbaragona.bsky.social

Reporter: What crime did Mahmoud Khalil commit to warrant his arrest and threatened deportation? Mike Johnson: We are going to arrest your tail and send you home where you belong. This is just getting started. I appreciate free speech, I used to defend it in courts. This is far beyond the pale.
