Well that’s great and I support. My thing is not buying new if at all possible. If you have to shop stores that align. I just tend to work smarter not harder. I make a good living but wanna spend $$ on experiences not things. Second hand shopping allows for that. I have very few “new” things.

There are some good reclaimed salvage companies out there, depending on your area, that sell lumber as well. No pressure, just an idea. It might save you a few dollars, too.

What about local lumber company chains? If you live near a city, should be plenty of them.

But maybe can find a local or non home depot hardware store. But you are right, some things are difficult to find outside the big stores.
