This is, as is Ian Dunt's wont, a terrific piece of writing. Realistic, terrifying, hopeful and a call to arms. I commend it to conference.

With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years.

Just home after singing in a packed concert to read this lovely thread about the power of music. Very life affirming. 🥰

Something amazing happened to me yesterday. I went to a free concert at a local church - The Gustav Holst Ensemble - & half way through the second piece - Brahms Piano Quartet no. 3 - I noticed that tears were streaming down my face. A moment of absolute beauty. Never known anything like it.

if you made art this year, you did well. a sketch, even if it was scrapped ; a poem, even if it was deleted — mattered. you put thought to paper, you engaged with the creative alchemy of turning feeling to something tangible. doesn't matter if you weren't productive "enough." or good "enough."

Did you know BlueSky only has 20 employees? We would like to say a huge THANK YOU to those 20 warriors (who are working 24/7 to keep up with the incredible growth) for giving us a space to share. We escaped hell to be here. Thank you, @bsky.app & Jay Graber CEO (not a billionaire)

And what a lovely, genial work this is. Like an accompaniment to a blissful day out, walking in the park. No frantic finale, just the opening Hallelujahs, a gentle stroll and a little minuet. Heavenly. #A-Haydn-A-Day

This makes sense. It seems fair and proportional. The rest can use the 7 year rule to avoid inheritance tax completely. But the dukes can stump up. They've been evading tax for centuries.
