I don’t think people really understand how bad the OMB proposed rule is going to be for state and local govt. We’re talking about putting a full third of state budgets under the explicit control of Russ Vought. (1/2) www.bondbuyer.com/news/cities-...

Nice try, but we remember who put these vaccine deniers in positions of power… and who, once they proved utterly unfaithful to their promises, are still keeping them there.

Sen Cassidy: “Claiming that risk from vaccines is greater than the threat from disease has led to highest rate of measles in decades. Undermining faith in polio vaccine will lead to paralyzed children. What others are doing will be blamed on President Trump. Unfair but true.”

this doesn't get talked about enough consolidated corporate media owners fired all the beat reporters with informed subject matter expertise because they didn't want to pay them health insurance, which degraded informed consensus and created a media environment easily exploitable by bad actors

We are losing something by having newsrooms where everyone who has more than a few years’ experience has gotten fired. I don’t fault a young writer for not knowing about things that happened before she was born. But now there are no editors to help give context to these stories, either.

I have to keep this deliberately vague, but this is a total disaster for academic research. And imposing it so suddenly is just cruel. I’ve got friends scrambling to get back to the US before midnight tonight. Do you know how hard that is to do on 36 hours of notice?

reuters.comTrump to impose $100,000 fee per year for H-1B visas, in blow to techThe Trump administration said on Friday it would ask companies to pay $100,000 per year for H-1B worker visas, prompting some big tech companies to warn visa holders to stay in the U.S. or quickly return.

I have to say…that HELP hearing on the CDC was pretty shocking. A senator lying about the existence of a recording to try to bait the witness, Cassidy holding his own ACIP meeting at the conclusion to counter Rand Paul’s crazy, almost all high level scientists replaced by political appointees…

All 4 of my NIH research grants are terminated. These were grants on MDR-TB treatment & strategies for supporting adolescents living w/ HIV. This is a massive waste of resources. I am heartbroken for my Harvard team, my partners in Peru, the next generation of scientists & our country. Shame.

This is insane. I'm hearing from multiple sources that all federal grants at Harvard have been *TERMINATED*. Full stop.

All NIH and NSF grants for my entire team--and for all of Harvard, I guess?--have been terminated. As provocative as that sounds, the practical effect is probably not much. Everything was already frozen. 🤷‍♂️ On the upside, it makes tracking terminated grants easier. No more guesswork at Harvard!

I work for a federal science agency that I won't name, but here is the dirty little secret: the scientists themselves aren't the valuable thing. The valuable thing are the systems and infrastructure that make the science possible (peer-review, journals, large lab support from multiple grants).

I helped build a government AI system. DOGE fired me, rolled the AI out to the whole agency, and implied the AI can do my job and the jobs of the others they've fired. It can't. But, what DOGE accidentally revealed about themselves in the process is fascinating. 🧵

Note that there have been *no* new notices in the Federal Register (03/01/25) for NIH review panels or council meetings since 01/21/25. This continuation of the NIH freeze on funding is in violation of the court order to resume Federal funding of awards and obligations.
