It’s come to something when a photographer has to get legal advice, before displaying this photo in an exhibition, due to the risk of being prosecuted as a terrorist, but that’s exactly what I had to do yesterday. What a state this country is in.

"Christian nationalism" in the UK is essentially a post-religious identity. Unlike the evangelical right in the US, it has no theological content, does not require belief in God & demands no moral or religious commitment. It reduces Christianity to a cultural "heritage" to be "defended" from Islam

Architects in Wonderland Decades ago James Marston Fitch argued that the reuse of existing buildings should be prioritized over the construction of new ones. His thesis, at once simple and radical, is more relevant than ever. placesjournal.org/article/arch...

If you like this work, it and two other working papers on rent control are on my website and a re-post would be helpful for my job market search!

The Northern Line, if it were proper Northern. (Made this a few years back, but thought I’d whippet out again.)

RTÉ News: Israel declare 'football has won' after Irish squad vote www.rte.ie/sport/soccer... Shambolic failure of principle by the FAI and the Irish team gives the cynical IFA a PR victory. FAI and UEFA should have prevented this and shielded the team but they they are adults with moral agency.

Certain numbers accompany us through our lives, connected to our memories of people and places, of significant events. What numbers remain with you decades later? And why? This poem is taken from Whatever You Do, Just Don't (HappenStance Press, 2023), my second full collection...

"True individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence. People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made.” —FDR, 1944

I haven’t timed it but it looks like BBC news coverage of air traffic control failure is greater than For Sec’s criticism of Israel’s egregiously illegal behaviour in the West Bank.

Keeping a Parisian apartment cool during a summer of record heatwaves, without air-conditioning, is no easy feat, @mireio.bsky.social writes. Learning how to passively regulate the temperature of your home can provide a valuable introduction to global energy management and planetary care.

They disinvented the VCR. You might think that the reason we don't have VCRs anymore is because VCRs were supplanted by DVDs, PVRs and streaming, but that's not the case. They had it in for the VCR from the very start, and they never stopped trying to kill it. Eventually, they succeeded. 1/

Just tuned into BBC and they’re showing Dolly: Here I Am and she’s singing her famous duet with Kenny Rogers, Ireland’s Industry. We’ve lost one of the very best humans.

I did phone-based broadband support for about eight years. The best/worst call saw me ask someone to "close all their windows and return to the desktop." After a couple of minutes, the customer said: "They're all closed, but the kitchen window is still open. Is that okay?" Yeah.

The full statement from UEFA is remarkable. Members vow not to participate in FIFA competitions unless the entire proposal is scrapped and assurances are made it is gone for good.
