this is good advice. this includes things like quote dunking and sharing screenshots. we don't need to engage with any of these jackasses at all, and angrily boosting them helps literally no one

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Yeah, St X very much is not a liberal bastion

Over 2,000 alumni from Vivek’s all-boys catholic high school in Cincinnati have signed and circulated a petition demanding that he pull the ad and issue a public apology for β€œignoring the moral responsibilities” of his Jesuit education. I think he’s pretty cooked.

Does anyone have their pet tattooed on them? I’m thinking of getting Heater and Dragon tattoos on myself but idk what type of style I’d want.

Not the first time Minnesota broke the enemies advance.

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

I do think when historians look back the period the exact moment where it flipped and started going the other way won’t be anything any politician did but my Minneapolis neighbors weathering the worst of the regime in the streets, rallying together, fighting back, and winning

The downstream effects of Magyar's victory have very strongly discredited this take (Of course, MattY never directs his attention to the right wing)

Yes well it does require things like β€œempathy” and possessing a basic understanding that all of our lives are interconnected

Gods. I just watched The Undiscovered Country and was thinking about who is and isn't still here over the closing credits.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

People have started treating "AI" as a moral category, without really understanding or caring how they actually define it.

hikikomorphism@hikikomorphism.bsky.social

hooooo boy we don't like this no we don't > If you don't speak English, you need to find a different community. We cannot distinguish between AI-written and AI-translated. Since you don't speak English, you can't even verify yourself if it translated correctly. www.reddit.com/r/opensource...

I really don't think there's any new skill to "prompt engineering", people often complain the computer won't do what they want and I suggest some common sense thing I would say to a person I don't trust to follow directions good, and it works. This is an old skill called giving directions to idiots

Christina Holland@mortalwombat.info

Kind of a dirty secret I found having to use it at work for code is that all that stuff out there where people go on about the special magic way they invented to word your prompts are bullshit. The most useful thing is the same clear communication as you need to use for humans. No shortcuts there

God said "I'm going to make this month a living hell and am gonna throw one more curveball in to rob you of the last attempt at joy you have for your birthday" And I said "FUCK YOU YOU'RE NOT MY MOM"

Oh, and what's the educational history of this advocate for the "working man"?

β€œPalantir cofounder and CEO Alex Karp states β€˜AI will undermine the influence of highly educated, often female voters and give it to working class men. We have feminine energy running our cities and our courts,’ he complained.”

Killing studios should put all their IP into public domain forever

Nash@radiodeadair.com

Maxis fucking prints money. They do it cheap and they crank out packs and updates on the regular, and Sims fans devour them. They are the proverbial cash cow. So why lay those people off when you're trying to cover an $18 billion buyout debt? This is why leveraged buyouts should be illegal.

the first film i remember seeing in the theater was the phantom tollbooth. did it stick with me? you be the judge

Mark Thompson@markreckons.bsky.social

First film you saw at the cinema. The real first one, not the pretend one you tell people! Mine: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980, Wigan. We were near the front and I can still remember how massive the AT-ATs looked, looming over us out of the snow :) Film, year, where, and whatever stuck with you.

I feel like all the Bioware retrospectives have not yet dwelt enough on what an absolute watershed Femshep was in terms of female playable protagonists

Vivek Ramaswamy has been a horrible person in public for so long that until a friend reminded me, I totally forgot that I wrote a letter to the editor blasting his opposition to a living wage for campus workers more than *two decades ago*
