I like languages, history, dogs (especially my lad Eric), films and books. I used to believe (and work) in politics. I support Sunderland and Celtic.

Of course there have never been any proven links between members of the Reform Party and Putin's Russia. Surely it would be a 'lie' to make such a suggestion. Oh.

I am very proud of that period. So many people contributed, and so many brilliant campaigns and commentators have built movements behind those policies (both before and since) and won over public opinion.

One thing I love about France is that they're always 100% France. They know what they're about and they follow through at all times

For anyone in Britain or further afield who wants to know WHY the Drumcree Parade down the Garvaghy Road is unwanted by the local people.

“The trouble with you, Spode, is that just because you have succeeded in inducing a handful of half-wits to disfigure the London scene by going about in black shorts, you think you’re someone. You hear them shouting “Heil, Spode!” and you imagine it is the Voice of the People.” Bertie Wooster

I'm sorry but I still miss Liz Truss. I had this beautiful summer like a kid from ET riding my bike around with my freaky little pal in the basket and then her pals just yoinked her back up into the heavens and I was just meant to go back to my life.

The man who beat two female protesters with his cane at the Reform conference has been identified as Stephen Cooling - it’s actually there on his conference tag - former UKIP candidate for Erdington and now member of Reform’s Sutton Coldfield branch. Presumably West Mids Police have enough info now

This day in history. 1989. In Britain the government of vile weed Margaret Thatcher began privatizing public water authorities because what could go wrong with drinking water provided by the lowest bidder or a Conservative MP's sister's son-in-law's younger brother?

Britain is a vassal state, and it's business as usual under Burnham. The UN released a report in Janary carried out by Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights & fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism, Ben Saul. This doesn't meet the UN criteria of terror. [1/2]

We use an app that alerts us if it thinks our children are searching for anything harmful online (yes, yes, Big Brother is watching) and today I got this in an email. I laughed and laughed.

It's very important that we defend the right of race scientists to hold academic sinecures, or else we open the door to attacks on the freedom of academic disciplines like gender studies and African-American history, which have already been banned.

You can’t understand it unless you recognise: the people doing it *loved it*, they had an absolute blast, just as they always do kicking fuck out of some despised unperson, until suddenly all their fun was ruined and they were left babbling excuses.

That’s the polite way of saying it. The press has yet again kicked a minor public figure to death and this time, they did it at the instigation of an obvious race science Nazi, in furtherance of the global fascist movement’s vicious crackdowns on civil rights for people they hate and want to harm.

I know you're not allowed to say this during the current debate, but the reason the left dominates academics, art, comedy, and music is that the right has stupid, discredited ideas, they're not funny, and dull resentment does not make for good art. No grand conspiracy required.

The big idea was always “cut essential services and the public will spontaneously become more entrepreneurial and innovate to make them unnecessary”. Sadly we have consistently failed our genius political thinkers, so minds naturally turn to: what if we just let them die, wouldn’t that be better.

A fairer headline would be 'Reform UK proposes letting disabled people die'.

As with everything else: they know what they’ve done and they know they are to blame. But they’re superior people - they are so obviously superior, that it never occurs to them to think about exactly how superior they might be - so it must be somebody else’s fault.

flyingrodent@flyingrodent.bsky.social

A great example of what always happens when the lads are asked to consider their own deep, immediately obvious guilt: like the Iraq War or austerity or Brexit, it turns out it was everybody’s fault. And if it’s everybody’s fault, nobody is really to blame www.thetimes.com/article/aadd...

Depressing to see BBC headline treating this as if it's a serious proposition But Reform are serious about returning us to an 18th-century level of social support So many of their voters depend on the sorts of benefits they would strip away #TurkeysVoting4Christmas www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Look, put simply, people should not be comfortable saying that in public and the way to fix society runs directly through making them afraid to say it again.

It really isn’t normal for media outlets to hound minor public figures to death, just for fun, because they can. That really is a Just Britain thing.
