A 2025 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, Omar Yaghi is the son of Palestinian refugees who grew up in Jordan. He just left the US to move to China after raising concerns about rising anti-immigrant sentiment, like the kind shown here. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/china-than...

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

The US is not about to have a free and fair election. The state has put its thumb on the scale to favor the ruling party in multiple ways. It's a mostly free, somewhat unfair election. But still one where the ruling party can be overwhelmed by numbers. Hence the term "competitive authoritarianism."

Asawin Suebsaeng@swin24.bsky.social

It is atrocious we have to operate under this constant credible and explicit threat from one political party, the fact we keep calling it a “free and fair election” needs some light revising

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

If my entire public image revolved around my toxic masculinity and toughness, I'd probably refrain from having my lawyer issue a statement saying my tummy hurts from icky sink water.

Fraud hotline, hmm? Hey I can never remember how many Trump sons there are. Is it 3? 2?

Ana Marie Cox@anamariecox.com

Incentivizing Trump voters to call in their suspicions about about black and brown people? What's the worst that could happen?

If you name your kids Tommy and Timmy, I'm going to assume you see one as the real kid and the other as kind of a walking organ refrigerator of spare parts.

Whenever I introduce Loper Bright in class, I stumble and struggle to find a gender-neutral alternative to "fishermen." Students will attest I invariably end on "fisherpeople" to many giggles. One quarter it was "the boat people." Today, fisherthon is born.

Merriam-Webster@merriam-webster.com

In 1934, we added a gender-neutral pronoun for a single third person. ‘Thon’ was short for “that one.” It didn’t catch on.

As a college sports non-enjoyer, let me tell you the stuff you folks yell at your teams is baffling to outsiders. It feels like a long prank. "Hem the drapes!"

1. Don't threaten me with a good time. 2. Let them sell some of their stake. 3. Don't threaten me with a good time.

Most billionaire wealth isn't in yachts or jewelry — that's just a few percent of it. Most is productive business capital: companies that employ people, build things, and fund research. Tax that wealth and you're taxing the businesses that employ us all. Cato's Adam Michel explains.

The "threat to democracy" juice runs low when you realize they see everyone with a view even slightly different than their own as the enemy. Nazis, wealth tax proponents, and people that would limit the number of stone fireplaces you can have are all equal threats.

Look, you left Twitter and figured you’d be able to rebuild your followers on Bluesky or Mastodon, and it didn’t materialize. You don’t get the engagement you did there, here. You waited. You thought maybe with some time you’d be an Important Person here, too. You still aren’t. So you went back.

But that's a bad thought piece. So you rationalize it. "Actually, Twitter isn't so bad now. I don't see Elon's posts in my feed automatically anymore. What's that? Can you still use Grok to remove the clothes of underage people? Yeah probably but I mean I don't *use that feature*."

I am normal, I don't hang out with platforms and people that sell child porn. That's who I was ten years ago; that's who I've stayed. That's *the big things*. It is the people who have stayed on Twitter who have changed, and who have not realized it. They embrace the dumpster fire, and can't see it.

These "I'm going back to Twitter" pieces are perhaps the most embarrassing content ever written.

I continue to think making *the box you will use* a quasi-anthropic mascot for Cologuard is one of those boardroom ideas that I just can’t fathom 1) pitching and 2) getting approved.

I mean, if your problem with Twitter/ was the quality of the posts you were seeing on it (rather than broader ownership/moderation policies/etc. concerns) then you probably never *needed* to leave. You could have just beefed up your blocking.

To say it actually isn't that bad now is, at best, moving the goalposts (at least as I understood them) to feel better about making use of the platform again.

If you watch a live-streamed execution, you either emerge more of an opponent of the death penalty or an individual capable of more violence than before. There is no third option. Extrapolate that out to a mass audience and there are going to be some ... effects.

so you think it would be funny if during my misogyny podcast my chair flipped backwards and my feet flew up in the air sending my favorite slippers into the ceiling fan and I got so jostled I swallowed my cigar and threw up a little on my new suit and track pants that’d be a knee slapper for you huh

"Do you hear me Eileen? Huh? Don't hang up on me. Jesus told me he jumps when the smoke alarm chirps too, Eileen. So when your dad makes fun of me at dinner he is making fun of Jesus too, how do you like that? Hello?"

What?

The staggering amount of "and to think, he could have hurt other people too" in this article is mortifying. The kind of response one might have to dingbat kids throwing a mannequin into traffic rather than, you know, a person left hopeless by this administration losing their life.
