This is so cool! 10 years ago we did an explicit joint embedding that worked pretty well. Crazy you can just... Train them independently!

Dominik Schnaus@schnaus.bsky.social

DINOv2 has never seen a caption, and Qwen3 has never seen an image. We still aligned their embedding spaces without a single image-caption pair. It even works when the images and the captions come from different datasets. Project page: dominik-schnaus.github.io/unpaired-rosetta ⬇️

My support for bluesky/atproto is pretty much explicitly a "political" project. It is bad for a small number of (mostly right-wing) people to literally own all the sources of media. Open-source algorithms + the ability to move your account without negative network effects opposes this.

A simple idea for regulating data center mania: "No large data center...should receive the permits or grid connection it needs unless its developer brings enough new carbon-free generation, energy storage and transmission online to meet its additional electricity demand—and pays the full cost."

claudeslop one shot Animusic with an arbitrary MIDI I didn't do anything but ask, it reached for blender and ffmpeg and rendered the whole thing on my GPU locally

brennan@brennan.computer

wait, oh my gosh we should be making Animusic videos

For the anniversary, I refreshed the dataset on Kaggle so that it's present as of today, and I switched from CSV to Parquet. The dataset now comprises ~3.9B rows over 21.56 GB.

You could retrain the exact same diffusion model on the exact same videos each year. As long as you reception those videos with each year’s SOTA LLM, the diffusion model will get better and better.

I’ve always wondered how to handle this sort of nested parallelism. Now I know there’s a library!

threadpoolctl 3.7.0 is out. This library is a utility used by @scikit-learn.org and others to coordinate the levels of thread-based parallelism in native libraries such as BLAS implementations and OpenMP runtimes used by Python libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, PyTorch and scikit-learn.

Approximating the Lorenz attractor with a chaotic leaky water wheel. The orange dot is the centre of mass of the water. It traces (a projection of) the familiar attractor as the wheel spins seemingly randomly left and right.

The fun thing about being a parent is that you get to attribute everything good your kid does to nurture, blame everything bad on nature… and then reverse this when talking about other people’s kids.

FLARE is a framework that uses large language models and automated theorem proving to verify mixed-integer linear programming reformulations with 100% accuracy on NP-hard problems, transforming optimization modeling and enhancing trust in AI solutions. https://arxiv.org/abs/2608.25220

This should be the law everywhere. Banning data centres is not a good long-term strategy, IMO, but forcing them to help build/fund clean energy infrastructure is.

Why was 1979 by The Smashing Pumpkins so popular? I like a lot of their music from that era, but that song is boring as hell. And yet it’s probably their most popular hit?
