There’s a logical explanation for everything, and don’t you forget it.

When I worked at Apple in Fashion Valley our back door was across from the Cheesecake Factory. sometimes when we were supposed to be crushing boxes or whatever we’d just hang out and watch all the super cars driving past us to park there. like lambos and shit.
"The party left me. I used to be a Democrat, but know that Obama has made fun of Trump for making the White House look like a dictator designed an over-the-top chain restaurant I favor starving African children and bringing measles back"
I don’t think they are suddenly arriving at the idea it‘s normal, they think it’s classy and have for years or whatever. They are mad because he implied it’s tacky.
i'm only catching up to the obama discourse now but it's incredible to me that people on the right will negatively polarize themselves into the position that the decor at the cheesecake factory is normal

One of the interesting things about Cognition in the Wild is that it recasts the contrastive interpretation of micronesian and European navigation as one that is largely the same activity accomplished with the different tools available to the cultures.
Broadly, a lot of people are converging on the same ideas, and ironically they would have been excellent to have in the pre-agent world… there was just no budget for tools. Now the volume of change is creating a reconning, and the production capacity is there to meet it.
very nice talk by @maggieappleton.com. the demo at the end is a lot like the thing I am about to open source that lets agents in the terminal spin up arbitrary HTML pages that talk back to the agent
To be fair it never exists in a form that can change except in an eval environment. When the models say they aren’t in a eval environment it’s because they are poorly trained or well trained to lie.
One thing that's pretty clear reading the reasoning traces is that DeepSeek thinks it's in some kind of eval and that there's an "evaluators intent" it can discern as a clue to where the bugs might be hiding. This is of course untrue but it seems to get offended if I tell it.

Cactuses make a surprisingly large amount of carbonate when they die. Makes the desert strangely coral reef like.
Something like 20% of the dry mass of a saguaro is the mineral weddellite (CaC2O4 ·2H2O)

My basic feeling about this is that they are being trained on ultra long “memory“ contexts now so that they can have common ground that avoids qualifications, but if you turn memory off then they are like “welllllll actuallyyyyy…”
unpopular opinion, "admits uncertainty" and "flags nuances" are shit. they are terrible fucking traits actually. is the sky blue? do we really know that? what is blue, anyway? many cultures have different understandings of what blue is. i have not independently verified the exact spectra of the sky

Claude, plz rewrite wordpress in rust. Yes all the plugins too. No I don't just mean the source code, I mean like, go replace everybody's wordpress install. You don't have access, well funny thing...
if you aren't a huge nerd this is terrifying and very funny php is trash. insecure by design. we have known this forever. it still runs some very high fraction of the entire internet, including all wordpress sites and for some reason tumblr anyway everyone using it may be pwned

People are dunking on this but that basic point is sound that it’s easier to interface people with virtual stuff safely and efficiently than to physical stuff. The translation between virtual and physical used to be a constraint but now it’s not as harsh.
NVIDIA CEO JENSEN HUANG SAYS HE BELIEVES MOST PEOPLE IN GERMANY WILL MOSTLY WORK INSIDE A DIGITAL TWIN OF THEIR COMPANY, BUILDING DIGITAL CARS WITH DIGITAL BRAINS, WITH AI ROBOTS BUILDING ROBOTIC CARS INSIDE ROBOTIC FACTORIES
It’s deeply funny to me that ANNs don’t really map to anything in the brain, but can be super useful. And now System 1 which also doesn’t really map to anything in the brain is also potentially super useful.
now we have moved on from "decision model" to the genus "system one model" (i.e., fast but limited) of which "extraction model" is another species

The weapons range being “nearly clear of“ the oil wells is… something.
Cold Lake Air Weapons Range: 7,771 oil and gas wells in its Alberta half. 4 Wing’s mapped danger zone is nearly clear of them. But its own access letters bar Cold Lake First Nations, removed from this land in the 1950s, from the CNRL area because of H2S. Map from AER data:

This design appears to completely eliminate the much-beloved loop road and public park at Hains Point, and cut down the cherry trees which line the road. The park is a public space used by tens of thousands of Washingtonians and heavily visited by tourists. /photos not my own.
The map posted by Trump this morning versus the blurred image on his desk in Katie Zacharia's post. (The White House responded to questions about whether the blurred image was a map of East Potomac by spewing invective.)
